Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
Well, Hunter was actually an elite defender at one time so he isn't incredibly far off, but maybe I was wrong on that statement slightly, because Hunter isn't even on the same planet as Hamilton as a hitter.
Hamilton outslugs the **** out of Hunter.
That deal was also signed 5 years ago.
If Hamilton could OPS .910-.940 his first 3-4 years and then .850-.900 the rest of the way I'd live with it. None of the guys live up to these contracts.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
I'm not even saying Hamilton will live up to any of these contracts. I just think it's really wishful thinking from Brewers fans that he'd either be in the price range or pick Milwaukee if nobody wants to pay him big bucks. Just seems totally random. When has a league MVP, given the entire league at his disposal and likely higher offers said, "yeah, I'll go to Milwaukee." Reggie White going to the Packers is as close as it gets.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
I could see the Brewers offering $25m per year for Hamilton. They would have to cut costs elsewhere, but if they think they have enough talented young pitchers under team control then they could make a contract like that work. Just trade one of the surplus right-handed power bats (Weeks, Hart, or Ramirez) and they could give Hamilton a monster deal.
I'm not even saying I think they should do it, as I'm usually very conservative about contracts in any sport. But the Brewers would do well to add a great left-handed power bat in rf this offseason so they can leave Hart at first and use Aoki/Gomez in cf.
I agree that it has probably a less than 2% chance of happening, though. What are some other rf options? I really want to leave Hart at 1B and move Aoki to cf to platoon with Gomez. Nyjer can be the 5th outfielder, or even be traded for a reliever for all I care.

I would take Hamilton in center, Aoki in right and Gomez/Morgan gone next year. Will it happen? Of course not. Especially since this team will likely spend most of their focus on pitching this offseason. But they'd be foolish to not explore it.

Yeah, I'm not giving Hamilton $25 million a year.

Hamilton's days as a regular in CF will likely come to an end this year. Hell, he's already played more than half of his games in LF so far this year. I haven't watched Texas play yet this season and thus can't judge what kind of range Hamilton has left, but i really doubt that he can cover more ground in CF than Aoki can.
I'm with coolhand that if pretend Hamilton did sign with the Brewers, i'd play him in RF and have some sort of platoon in CF between Aoki/Gomez, so long as Gomez only hit 7th or 8th in the order when he started.

I would guess Hamilton can cover more ground than Aoki in CF. Aoki is awful defensively.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
You might be correct since i can't remember the last regular season MLB game i've watched which didn't involve the Brewers. Given Texas is in the AL, i never watch them play besides the World Series the last two years.
I was basing Hamilton being more a corner OF simply by his size and him playing 60 plus games in LF for Texas. Maybe he's faster and has more range than i'm assuming, even though i know he's a good athlete for his size.

The Nationals have acquired infielder Cesar Izturis from the Brewers, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports (on Twitter).
If we didn't get AT LEAST Harper I'm gonna be SO PISSED.

Does anybody know what players we have put on waivers besides Izturis?

Like I said, just about every player in MLB is put on waivers.

Yup. Usually the only ones who arent are the guys people have zero intention of trading.

Just about everyone except Braun and Gallardo and the talented young guys under team control is probably on waivers. I've kind of been hoping that some contender suffers a major injury and makes a great offer for Ramirez or Hart (or even Weeks now that he's hitting a little better), but obviously that's very unlikely to happen.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
We're going to keep this core of bats together and try and win next year again. I'm guessing Aoki/Gomez/Braun/Ramirez/Hart/Weeks/Lucroy/Segura is the opening day lineup next season.
How they plan on filling out the rotation/bullpen I have no idea.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
They could have a good amount of money to spend if they want to go after a Liriano or Peavy type. There are always bullpen arms out there, too.
But if they really wanted to they could simply go with who they have in the system.
Gallardo
Fiers
Peralta
Thornburg
Estrada
Burgos and Rogers could get looks too.
Axford
Parra
Loe
Henderson
Those are guys I'd probably pencil in at this point for the BP. No idea who else we'd look to.

What they should do is let the young guys pitch and try to add a good left-handed bat with some power, even if it means trading someone. What they will do is stand pat in the field and spend all their money on second-rate pitchers and overpaid relievers.
Aoki
Morgan/Gomez
Braun
Ramirez
Hart
Weeks
Segura
Lucroy
1 - Gallardo
2 - ???
3 - ???
4 - Fiers
5 - Estrada
I don't like the fact that all their run producers are right-handed hitters, as it will make it much easier for opposing managers to get the match-ups they want in late innings. And I'm especially worried about the possibility of signing the next Jeff Suppan for one of those spots in the rotation.
