That lineup

I understand RRR is trying to change things up with how crappy our offense has been, but its like hes intentionally avoiding lineups that would make any sense. I wonder if giving Rami a day off would help him with his slump at all?

Ugh, that lineup is so minor-league-y without Braun. We need to add a major bat before the deadline. Preferably well before the deadline.

What would "make sense" in your estimation?

I feel like Garza is due for a good outing.

My eyes bleed when I see a .672 OPS in the 3-hole. And not some slumping superstar with those numbers, either.

Even if technically the 2-hole is supposed to be where you put your best hitter, but we know RRR has never read that research article, so he's making a statement that tonight he thinks Scooter is (one of) his best hitters.

Granted, with the rest of that lineup, he's not far off...which is sad, because he's back to being a AAA hitter as was expected.

I think if I have to play those guys my lineup is:

1 - Gennett
2 - Gomez
3 - Reynolds
4 - Davis
5 - Maldonado
6 - Gindl
7 - Segura
8 - Garza

It's gross, but I think that's better than what RRR is trotting out there.

How many managers put their best hitter in the 2-hole? Very few is the answer to that question.

Right. Theres no obvious lineup with this group. Especially with Braun out, Lucroy resting, and Ramirez and Segura slumping. It is what it is. Definitely not kill-the-manager worthy, thats for sure.

A lot of GMs/managers have gone to advanced stats. I don't think any of them have been pushed far enough into reading the documents that say your #2 hitter should be your best in terms of opportunities with runners on base, etc. It was more of an aside, that general convention is #3 is your "best" but the numbers slightly report #2. Anyways, just was kinda a sidenote and I wasn't holding Roenicke to knowing that.

I wasn't ripping Ron too much. I'd prefer to not put a .299 OBP (for a guy that barely cracked .300 in the minors) not in the top 3 of any order. But in a sense he doesn't have a ton of other options. Gindl, Gomez, Aramis, Reynolds, and to an extent Davis (though he's lost his mind at the plate) are all better hitters than Scooter no matter how much Aramis is slumping.

Though I am anxiously awaiting if Scooter hits a big double, that many fans will note that Ron "pushed the right button."

Gomez's OBP is 40 points higher than Scooter and probably a million higher than Segura's.

We should just reverse the batting order and see what happens.

We just played a team that did.

Makes no sense that Reynolds is 6th in that **** fest of a lineup. Segura and Scooter 2 and 3 make little sense also but hey, whatever, it's the Diamondbacks so we still might win.

Bolsinger sounds vaguely familiar. He'll probably give up three or four hits and one run.

This offense can't get going against this **** show of a team, we are most definitely in trouble.

Gomez in the 3 hole seems somewhat obvious to me, but maybe i'm wrong on that.

I understand RRR doesn't exactly have a lot to work with right now, but Scooter should never, ever be hitting 3rd.

Come on Garza. Jesus. Though to be fair, he made a pitch that likely results in an out if Braun is out there and not Gindl.
