Weird. Everyone else is saying its just a day off. Can't find anything from TH on Twitter about it either.

Looks like he has not had a day off since May 5th. With the Cards struggling, no need to keep running him out there everyday. Now is the perfect time to get him some rest, imo.

Luc deserved a night off. Hopefully it's nothing more than that.

Maldanado is a quality backup catcher, but it is rare in baseball to have a catcher who can hit like he can. His hitting covers for a weak bat like Overbay.

Maldy sure is nice to have as a backup.

Would have preferred a hit but hard to complain about scoring in the first inning all the time lately.

I can't find anything to indicate that Lucroy isn't just getting a day off. Where was that speculation coming from?

The one thing Braun could do better as a hitter is show more plate discipline. He had a 2-0 count there and swung at a pitch off the plate. For as big of a threat he is, he should walk more than he does. Lucroy has drawn 13 more walks and even Gomez has 9 more.

Maldanado not only is a great defensive catcher, he's not a near automatic out as many backup catchers are. Granted, he won't keep up his .950 OPS rate, but he's got more hitting ability than many of the scrub backup catchers the Brewers have trotted out for a long time.
