The Brewers were getting some some unexpected production at a few positions, but the law of averages has caught up to them. They had more players overachieving than underachieving, and they had relatively good health. Now it has evened out. Also, their utter inability to play good fundamental baseball has been the difference between them and many other playoff contenders in the NL. They all went through their ups and downs, and the Brewers happened to have their "ups" earlier in the season. But they're just not a very good team.
