2015 Minors Thread

Post#1 » by LUKE23 » Mon Apr 13, 2015 3:00 am

Since this will likely be the most interesting Brewers related thing all season, figured I'd get it started. Kodi Meideros with a great first start tonight, 0 ER in 6 IP with 7K. Sounds like he was throwing an easy 95. Wisconsin is 0-4 but they have the most interesting team in terms of prospects.

Orlando Arcia with a really hot start as well.

I didn't know Kodi was playing in Appleton this season. I'll be checking him out for sure.

Awesome to see Medeiros dominating so quickly. Hoping for big things from Gatewood. His 20-30 extra lbs of muscle will help him a lot IMO

Made the trek Sunday to the game from East Troy despite a 20mo and 5mo old in tow...1st time at a TW game. Was impressed despite my attention detractors. I like the atmosphere a lot better than the last minor game I went to in Beloit a few years ago. A lot of top tier prospects to catch in their infancy. Didn't make it to the end and grab auto...so the next home Sunday is already planned. Koonce was there signing his book so I did score that...Grassroots ball, really refreshing.

The last time I was at a TRats game Dave Bush was making a rehab start and they also had Brett Lawrie, Lorenzo Cain, Maldonado, Taylor Green, Josh Prince, and I think Odorizzi was on the team at the time too. We are definitely a little spoiled to get a minor league team so close to our home team so we can watch our own prospects develop.

Some nice names down there. Denson, Gatewood and Harrison. Would be a fun team to check out.

Arcia - .417/.488/.556
Coulter - .340/.446/.723
Medeiros - 15.1 IP, 2.93 ERA, .78 WHIP, 5 BB, 20 K

The young hitters are still struggling in Wisconsin but Harrison hit two homers last night.

The K rate for Medeiros at his age is promising. Roache is doing very well so far too (.949 OPS), although he's repeating High A. Still only 23 though.

Between Arcia, Coulter, Roache, Harrison, Gatewood, Lara, and Taylor, and to a lesser extent Sardinas, Reed, Rivera, and McFarland, we have a decent amount of high ceiling bats in the system, even if a few years off.

We still badly need high ceiling pitching infused into the system.

Not at all confident in Roache. Actually pretty much have written him off. Major swing and miss issues in the minors never lead to good things as you climb the ladder and he may "only" be 23 but that's a little old for the league.

Agreed. I saw him in Appleton and he has the look of a player, but his averages I felt were always kind of low for that level. He had power, but doesn't do much good if you don't make a ton of contact. And he was also terrible in the OF.

Who ended up getting Bruce Seid's position? Is it Zack Minasian? Any reason to be more confident in the new guy? Its unfortunate Seid passed away, but the high pick drafting the past half decade or so has put the team in a bind.

Clint Coulter tied for the minor league league in homers with Michael Conforto (10th overall pick last year) and Stewart Ijames (26 year old playing in the Cal League, so old and amazing hitting environment.)

Now hitting .338/.434/.708

Roache as well. Wonder how long they wait to move him up. Yadiel Rivera also with a hot start.

Coulter is probably close to being a big leaguer. The bat was never really the problem. Now if they could finally realize how bad this roster is and rebuild it (selling Braun to someone) these guys would get a fair shot.

Does anyone else think the Brewers take their time moving players up their minor league system? There are some of the prospects doing well, and I would like to see how they fair in the next level.

No. We're not even a month into the minor league season. Wait until they start facing pitchers twice and see how they're doing.
