Will Roenicke or Melvin Get Fired?

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Thu Apr 16, 2015 2:29 pm

How long is their leash?

I have to imagine Mark isn't happy about the slow start, especially if it causes ticket sales to sag considerably going into the summer. That, coupled with the collapse of the team last year, leads me to wonder whether Roenicke could be canned by the end of the month.

He basically was offering Melvin a lifetime contract a few weeks ago. I think Roenicke was assumed gone if they sucked, though.

Would rather see Melvin fired than RRR, TBH. Would be estatic if either happened.

At this point they need a new direction, but I think Melvin has done pretty well the past few years with the latitude he has. Drafting has sucked and Mark has told him to "win now." He's won the majority of his trades. I guess in the end, he is responsible for hiring the scouting/drafting team, but Melvin has actually grown on me over the past 5 years or so...because I thought he was trash early in his tenure. He absolutely fleeced Toronto with the Lind trade. It's unfortunate that it's on a sinking ship.

That said, they're going to need to blow this thing up if it doesn't turn around in a few weeks here...in which case, I want somebody new anyways with a different mindset.

RRR will probably be fired if they're like 10 games under .500 in May. Doesn't seem like Melvin will be fired. Attanasio just needs to gtfo. You're the owner, not the GM. This league is swimming in money yet he's afraid to rebuild because of losing the fans. Run a $70 million payroll for a couple years and at worst you're making the same amount as you are now (because nobody buys the argument that you or any other owner is losing money.)

My biggest criticism of Melvin is the **** job he's done with the farm system.

He could have traded for some better prospects in the few windows he was allowed to sell, but the drafting was god awful, and he isn't the one drafting.

The Brewers would probably look a little bit better with Lawrie, Cain, Escobar, and Odorizzi out there but I'm not sure there would be a near-WS run like 2011 in the tank.

He's responsible for the one who's drafting. That's how it works. And he stuck by Seid (RIP) even though he was a trainwreck.

I think RR could go if we continue to win at the pace we are now. I'd say early May maybe. Picking up that option may help him last a little longer.

I don't think Melvin is fired. It will be something along the lines of mutually agreeing that this is his last year.

Drafting has hurt this team. They've missed on a lot of high picks.

RR is the obvious scapegoat. I'm not a big fan of his anyway but he's hardly the problem. I'd rather get a new GM.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I would like to see Melvin go first but, agree RR is the scapegoat.

Melvin has grown on me, but I wouldn't be too upset if we fired him. RR on the other hand should've been gone last September.

Supposedly Attanasio is working out a new 3 year deal with Melvin that would include a succession plan. But who knows maybe he'll be asked to "retire" after this season.

At least Darnell Coles doesn't have anything to worry about.

Melvin and Mark A are the reasons this organization is in the dump. Melvin should be the 1st to go.

This and Attanasio needs to hire a young analytics guy and just gtfo of his way.

I've said for awhile now that assuming Melvin hired Seid and not Attanasio, that hiring as scouting director will have done more damage leading to Doug's eventual firing than any other move he's made by far.

All small market teams need a steady flow of quality talent via the draft to thrive and that largely dried up after Seid took over for Zduriencik.

As for who gets fired, my gut feeling is both both Melvin and Roenicke will get fired.

Don't waste the money. Let Ron and Doug tank away for this year and next.

I would be shocked if either are fired during the season. Personally, I'd like to start fresh with a new GM and Manager. Will it happen? No way. I feel like Melvin will be able to stay as long as he wants.
