2015 Trade Deadline Thread - Ramirez to Pirates
EDIT: Changed name because if this goes on for another week or two, this is probably the main discussion we'll want to have for 2 months.
****************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Who would you trade/not trade?
I'm honestly struggling to find anyone I wouldn't deal.
Segura if he captures some of 2013 form I'd keep.
Peralta is forever going to suck against lefties and has declining velocity. Nelson I may keep but has the same velocity issue.
Luc/Gomez both have fairly short length left on their contract. I think Luc is going to be burned out by his early 30s. Gomez is going to cost too much and is probably not going to age incredibly well in his 30s.
Scooter/Davis aren't superstars and aren't incredibly young.
Everyone else is pretty much self explanatory.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
Nobody on this team is deserving of an untouchable label. I'd trade guys like Ramirez and Lohse for whatever I could get at this point. We could get a haul for both Lucroy and Gomez but it would take balls to move them and this franchise doesn't have any.
We'll probably do something minor like trade Broxton and Parra when we're 20 games under .500 then our **** team will decide to **** up our draft position by being 10 games over .500 down the stretch and we're in the total Bucks under Kohl mode. Remember when I first made that comparison a couple years ago and nobody wanted to believe it? It looks sadly accurate right now.

Two years ago, it wasn't accurate. But yeah, they're spinning their wheels right now.

Get rid of Ron R. And this team automatically improves immediately. Trade Braun and Rameriz for young pitching prospects. Keep Nelson and Willy both young. They both could improve really like Nelson's curve ball. Start building around defense and pitching now. Waiting is just foolish enough trying to build around a boom or bust offense. I don't know about Gomez could get a lot for him but if manager every reigns him in watch out. If he would just try and get on base he would be so valuable. Plus his defense is amazing. But to reiterate GET RID of Ron NOW.

The problem is nobody is giving up good prospects for those two right now. Ramirez is old, injury prone and not close to the hitter he was. Braun has a ton of money and length left on his contract and hasn't hit well in a little over two years. Until and if he does, he doesn't have a lot of value.

Yeah gotta hope Braun improves his hitting by the trade deadline. I have already given up hope on this season. So sad but I am done being disappointed by this team time and time again. Don't wanna give up our young guys I really hope the vets improve by the trade deadline so we can sell them off high.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
I wanna say Segura too, but if he has nice numbers around deadline I'd be scared that his value may never be that high again.
Peralta unless we got a great package.
Gomez/Lucroy totally depends on if they think they can resign them after current contracts and what's being offered for them. I don't think either will break down anytime soon.
Everyone else can go now.

Pretty much where I'm at.
I'd try to keep the guys under team control for three+ years but everyone would be on the table. Punt on the this season and the next, hope you have an influx of talent in '17 like we started to see in the Hart/Yo/Weeks/Fielder years. The lower levels have some guys to be optimistic about.

Take it fwiw but I have it on good authority that the Brewers have been trying to trade Braun (Make A is mad he gave him that contract) and there are no takers.
As far as my thoughts, bottoming out this year may be the best thing that could happen to the franchise (like the Buck's last year). Bring in a GM who is all in with analytics and a manager who knows they shouldn't be using Schaffer as a pinch bunter for christ's sake.

If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
This is the "are we the Kohl Bucks?" season. I was OK pushing it along (as usual I will say I'd have built in a different manner) with win now because we had an MVP in his prime (we thought) and a bunch of good prime players under fair contracts. This is the year where something has to give.
I knew there was opportunity to crash in this the last year with the very veteran roster (end of A-Ram, Lohse, etc) but it is perfectly constructed for a fire sale if it does crash and burn or at least a major facelift.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
Peralta and Nelson have almost zero percent chance of being traded if things stay ugly and i'm perfectly fine with that. Almost no chance on Luc either.
Gomez though is the really big fish to see what Attanasio is willing to do if the team keeps cratering. A guy still in his prime that is highly productive both offensively/defensively and under an extremely team friendly contract, with another year left on it after this season.
If Attanasio refuses to trade Carlos at the deadline, even if the team is buried in the standings, i'm going to be very annoyed.

Couldn't you say the same for Lucroy? He's got an extra year, but his value has to be enormous.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
Lucroy and Gomez are my favorite players but this team desperately needs a new look and those guys would bring back the most value. I would definitely sell them both to the highest bidder by this deadline. I wouldn't even wait until the offseason. Give the fans something to talk about. Firing RR needs to happen, but it can't be the only thing that happens.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
somebody would give up some nice prospects for braun...honestly if were 10 20 games under 500 we have so many guys that can at least get you a couple young guys in return..bruan, luuuc, gomez, ramirez, lind, davis, parra, loshe, garza, broxton should all be tradeable and a couple of them could give us some top level prospects.. start the rebuild.. get a top 5 pick this year and next.. see what happens.. im probably one of the few people who actually follow the mlb draft its just hard for most people to get excited about

I just don't think Attanasio could stomach trading both and the team kinda trumpets Lucroy as the face of the franchise now that Braun has been disgraced. Hell, getting Attanasio to waive the white flag enough to trade only Gomez is something i'd be very skeptical of.

Yeah, I doubt they'd have the balls to make some of those moves. I just don't think Lucroy is going to age that well. I know he has 2 years left, but if you're rebuilding, who cares about that?
I guess if they keep Peralta and Nelson, they'd both be coming back from their first TJ surgery in 3 years.

Re: If Sucking Continues, Who Stays/Goes?
The thing about cleaning house too soon is that we don't know yet how bad the division is going to be. Despite preseason predictions, nobody seems to be playing great baseball. As pathetic as this sounds, this year might be our best opportunity to do something for a while by out-mediocr-ing other so-so teams.

I wouldn't say anybody on the 40 man roster is untouchable. Only guy they should not trade is Orlando Arcia as he could be a great player at a premium position. Everybody else can be had for a price but I fear too many are too old and unproductive to net anything that good. Lucroy and Gomez would bring the best return but don't think the owner has to guts to pull that off as he would lost too much money in the short term.

Serious question, when has a declining player with a large contract netted nice prospects? I find it hard to believe there will be takers.

The only guy worth keeping at this point IMO is Segura. Everyone else should be on the block.
