Draft Thread

The draft is coming up soon on June 8th - June 10th, so I thought it would be nice to see if anyone had a player in mind for the Brewers to draft with the 17th pick. I know MLB drafts are a little harder to judge, but I believe this is where the Brewers must improve now that we are horrible. The team also have a new scouting director in Ray Montgomery, so it will be nice to see which direction he takes in the draft compared to Seid.
This is a nice article I found of his time while with the Diamondbacks of his philosophy.
http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/m ... /13755379/I really want the Brewers to pick either Brady Aiken and Michael Matuella since they have fallen in the mock draft because of Tommy John. I really don't want them to fall to the Red Sox, Yankees, or Dodgers. Aiken was the first pick of last year draft and Matuella was supposed to be a top potential no. 1 pick this year before having to get Tommy John.

I saw the other day someone projected that Funkhouser kid from Louisville, I'd be OK with that.

I dont think they'll go in on either. Honestly I think Donnie Everett is our guy. Also read somewhere we were on Koby Allard hard too.

Matuella at 15 if he's there. If not I'd like Allard.

Mayo's mock has the Brewers taking Aiken. I'd be all over that.

I'm a little bit worried now about drafting Funkhouser. Mayo said that he has been struggling and dropped him in the mock. For some reason, Funkhouser kind of reminds me of Eric Arnett.

If he checked out fine so would I. The problem was his Tommy John wasn't typical because he has a smaller than normal UCL so nobody knows how long it will hold up or if it's like everyone else's.
If they got clearance, I'd definitely take him though. Top 5 talent that dropped due to injury. Same with Matuella and to a lesser extent Allard (though he was more like top 10.)

It's an issue Law mentioned yesterday though. If he releases his medicals and looks worthy of a 1st round pick he probably isn't lasting that long. If he gets to MIL's pick there's going to be a gamble.

Anyone have any knowledge about next years draft? Since it's looking like we might have the #1 pick, just trying to see if there's any transcendent type talents that will be available.

Well since MLB draft isnt like normal drafts its hard to project that far out. However with that said Riley Pint and Anthony Molina are massive talents. Then for the college guys there is always the guys who doesnt sign this year and blows up next year.

I will also say as a whole next years draft is light years deeper than this years.

Next year we just need to be top 3 or 4 to get a transcending player. My hope for Garret Whitley is fading. Callis and Mayo have him going before us.

Predicting Happ.

Happ as a 2b prospect is ok. As an OF prospect no way for me. Should be an under slot sign for consolation.
