On one hand i do understand cravys frustration. He pitched well down the stretch last year and well in spring training so i can see how hes thinking what the hell else do i need to do to win a spot.

But on the other hand youre a AAAA type middle reliever so this kind of thing is just a fact of life for a guy like you so handle your business and chances are youll be up in a month replacing someone who sucks or gets hurt.

There was a running debate on Twitter about really who looks the worst in this whole ordeal. I agree with you WG. I get Cravy's frustration and I understand that if youre looking to get put on the 25 and look for that payday versus MiLB pay its very significant. However, its baseball. Nothing is guaranteed and no matter how you shake it down a team will always look out for whats in its overall best interest. Cravy had options remaining and Hughes is a better player. Quite a few people said the FO came off as unreliable and I think its completely the opposite. Cravy came off as a sore loser and immature. The parallel I draw is if youre in consideration for a promotion and a company makes an outside hire for that job and youre passed over. Would you walk down to HR and threaten to quit? In the corporate world they would fire your ass on the spot if you acted like that. Then on top of that make some weird parallel with trying to make a professional 25 man roster with a 9-5 job. Im sorry you just dont get any sympathy from me.

I hate comparing any sports to 9-5s but i work in executive recruiting and people leave jobs all the time for the scenario wichmae just laid out. So i guess it does kind of suck for cravy that he cant look to leave. But again hes a baseball player and he knows what hes getting into and soon enough hell be out of minor league options and free to leave when he gets cut.

Personally i don't think either side really looks all that bad. As long as he puts this behind him i can chalk it up to cravy being a competitor and being pissed in the heat of the moment with a microphone in his face after he got cut. On the brewers side its a business and they need to do whats best for the organization and sometimes that will ruffle some feathers. No big deal.

Honestly I think the brewers tend to be a little too conservative on bringing up young guys. I get why but i guess im more the throw them in the pool and see if they can swim type.

Managing service time wisely is maybe the most important part of a rebuild, especially for a small market. Stay patient.

Just for fun, even though it's still possible that these takes could still end up being true.

Should have sold high on Villar and let Scooter keep 2b warm for Isan Diaz. Then cut Kirk last winter to keep Miguel Diaz.

I was a big fan of trading Villar for pitching prospects but it's hard to gamble on a guy who had ano unbelievable season and is still young.

I was 100% in favor of trading Villar every time it came up, and I brought it up myself on multiple occasions. Keeping Scooter is neither here nor there, but it would have been an obvious consequence of trading Villar. Maybe he could he have had one good season in his prime and been traded for bullpen depth.

See, that's the whole thing about hindsight and how dumb your take is. The only way this trade could be made is in hindsight. If Stearns had a time machine he MIGHT go back now and trade Villar. The man isn't stupid. I promise he had doubts whether Villar could repeat what he did last year. But so did every other GM in baseball. So did countless number of fans. There's no way anyone was giving up anywhere near what Villar was worth if he continued to live up to his skillset. He still might. Why is why I say Stearns MIGHT go back and take a lesser offer for Villar if he had the ability of hindsight. He also MIGHT take the info he has today and still feel like the upside outweighs what he was being offered.

Unfortunately it won't stop dopes like you from coming in and tooting your own horn just because you expressed the same fears everyone else had about a breakout player.

How is it hindsight if I argued for the move multiple times before the season started? Talk about a dumb take. You don't even know what hindsight means. Several of us took a lot of flak for wanting to sell high on him, and it was one of the main points of contention here all offseason. It wasn't just "expressing fears that he had a breakout season". You're being a complete d-bag here.

ETA: This is very much in line with what we thought would happen. His BABIP was ridiculous last year, his defense was bad, he was a complete jackass on the bases, and he's kind of a swing-for-the-fences jackass at the plate too but didn't get called on it much because his BABIP hid the truth about him. I don't know what offers were out there but I made it clear that I would have accepted less than what a player his age with his stats would normally be worth because it was a fluke.

Yeah there was quite a few of us who wanted to sell high on Villar. Including myself.

I wouldn't have minded it as well. Plenty of time for him to get his mojo back, though.

Million dollar question: did any of the 29 other GMs want to buy high?

Only Barometer woulda have been the Segura to Mariners trade. All it takes is one team.

It's quite possible that Stearns was dangling him and that sort of package just wasn't there this offseason, though.
