Trade: Thornburg to Boston

This package better be great. Only name I've read so far is Josh Pennington.
Other names I'm seeing now are Mauricio Dubon and Travis Shaw.

Quick look at it and the deal seems like a good one. Milwaukee gets their new 3B in Shaw, and two high performing A-Ball guys at SS and SP.

Seems like a decent deal. Dubon looks like a decent prospect and Pennington gives the another hard throwing minor league arm. Shaw is kind of meh but he's a left handed bat and under control for a while.
LOVE that this means Villar is going to be at 2nd base. Also love the idea of striking while Thornburgs value is hot. Dude was great last year but with his injury history he's the type of asset that can go poof with one throw.

Braun will most likely be traded. But if Stearns doesn't think there is a good deal on the table now I'm fine with holding onto him and trading him at some point during the season. I want him traded but not given away.

Seems fine, I'm more than ok with moving Thornburg. I just dont trust him to stay healthy and repeat last season.

I'm okay with this. Thornburg has had injury issues so if you can pick up a few prospects and maybe a 3B, why not.
I guess the only thing is TT couldve maybe raised his value even more if he had a strong first half as a closer. But still fine with it.

Doesn't his 10-5 rights kick in this season? That puts a big hurdle in any deal after this offseason

I'm not exactly thrilled. Feel like we could have gotten a better prospect if we consolidated. Don't understand this package. We didn't even get a top 10 guy from them for one of the best relievers in baseball.

Yep. I think it's late May when it kicks in. Can block trades to any team and probably will.

Very curious to know more about why Stearns coveted Shaw. I've never seen him play but nothing he's done in the minors or majors stands out to me as being particularly good. His 2nd half last year was downright terrible.

Seems like Dubon could be the real prize here. He put up some great numbers in AA last year.

Pennington is opening eyes with the Lowell Spinners. In six starts in the Low A New York-Penn League, he’s 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and 12 walks in 27 innings.
A curveball that he could spin well in high school flashes the potential to get swings and misses.
A National League scout raved about Pennington’s quick arm and power stuff, seeing the potential for a mid-rotation starter or late-inning reliever. He has quickly emerged as one of the better pitching prospects in the Sox organization, a startlingly rapid rise for a player drafted in the 29th round.
“Every scout you’ll ever talk to, that’s where you’re happiest. That’s the most rewarding, the lower-round guy who gets there,” said Fagnant.
He's got some upside too.
