Re: 2018 Around the League
The problem with suspensions like these is it's always less because it counts games that the pitcher never pitches. They'll suspend Urena 5 games, which is really just 1 game and a 1 game suspension is not a disincentive.

I mean they generally give a pitcher 5 games for an offense that they give a position player 1 game for. The only time this isn't the case is when it's for something like PEDs, but 80 games is still pretty sufficient even for a starting pitcher.
Whatever they give Urena probably won't be enough if that is the case or not, of course.
Just taking the most recent example, Perdomo/Arenado brawled and Perdomo got 5 games, Arenado got 1. I can't completely recall if all were at the same fault, but they generally do 5 for a pitcher, 1 for a player.
Of course, one could argue a pitcher should get more like 8 or 9 games. A 5 game suspension just pushes their start back 1 game most likely if it is timed right.
For something more serious with starting pitchers, it should be a multiple of 5. Maybe 20 for Ureña.
2 things that come to mind for longer starting pitcher suspensions:
1. Because it’s a multiple of 5 for the same offense, I wonder if the players union would fight more given pay assuming these are without pay suspensions. Example being if Ureña and a batter had just gotten in a fight and both were pretty much equally at fault. Ureña suspended 20 games, batter suspended 4 games. Ureña would lose about 1/8 of his season paycheck but the hitter would lose 1/40th for equal offenses.
2. They probably have to toe the line of keeping these suspensions somewhat shorter in most cases because of the worry that the next time a guy is unintentionally hit that they’ve set a precedent. Or an understandable incident now is going to come with a massive suspension.

Well, not quite. They do lose five games worth of paychecks.

For Urena that's about $25,000. If enough coaches and players agree with what he did they can pool enough money together to either mitigate or completely offset the cost of the lost salary.

...they can pool money to pay fines for position players, too. And relievers. And anyone else who gets suspended.
There aren't really any easy ways to resolve this. Suspend him for five starts? A team can go ahead and schedule that pitcher to start five games in a row. Suspend him for 25 games? Well, that doesn't seem fair to have him pay five times the fine you'd have him pay if he was a reliever.
I'm not sympathetic towards Ureña at all. I think these "respect the game" **** should be run out of the league. Pitchers who bean guys should be harshly suspended, as should their managers (who often order the hbp). But you can't treat starting pitchers differently than anyone else.

Twins’ #1 pitching prospect gave up 4 Runs on 6 Hits in 1 1/3 innings in his debut tonight.
That’s fun.

Re: 2018 Around the League
The Murphy one was frustrating. Nobody else wanted to just pay $5 million to take Murphy due to not being as big of a market or already having too many LH bats to take on another one for that much...so he walks right over to the Cubs.

It would've nice to have the room and need for a lefty 2B. Sucks that he fell all the way to the Cubs.

Re: 2018 Around the League
Would prefer Murphy over Schoop. Murphy is a hack on defense but Schoop isnt a gold glover by any stretch but Murphy could at least hit near the top of the lineup. Shame the **** Cubs get him. Watch him hit .340 the rest of the year and Hamels rocks a 1.50 era just cuz

Ortiz called up in Baltimore. I've very curious to see how he does.
