Not directly related to this series but what’s Miley’s timetable? Wasn’t he gonna be in the rotation until he got hurt. I paid zero attention to spring training but had heard how good he looked.

Yeesh. Seeing those pitching matchups really puts into perspective how far behind our pitching staff is in comparison. Got a very bad feeling about this series.

I agree that all are incrementally better most likely than the guy they're facing, but basically all of those Cubs pitchers save for Hendricks have also gotten rocked so far this year...so there's that.

I think we take 2 and they take 2. Our SP and lack of scoring is scary sometimes.

Going 2-2 against that rotation is a win in my book. Split the series and then return the favor against the Cards in St. Louis.

Man, looking at those rotation matchups makes me ill. Should have made another move for a pitcher.

It's a shame we can't have a $180 million payroll like the Cubs to sign guys like Darvish and nullify prospect loss by being able to sign other guys.

Well, I thought we could have added Cobb at the Orioles offer, would have only pushed us slightly over $100M this year. When Nelson was back, you'd have Davies probably as your #4. That's a pretty solid rotation even if it doesn't have a stud ace. Nelson/Anderson/Cobb/Davies/Woodruff. Suter and Chacin are both meh, and relying on Anderson as your ace for at least two months is extremely iffy. Woodruff is going to have to be legit.

If we had the Cubs payroll we could have added Yu, Jake and Cobb and never sign Chacin and still have plenty of money leftover

I was somewhat on the Cobb bandwagon, though that would bump things up to $120+ potentially next year and I don't think he's that good.

I think that if you think our pitching staff is that much ass that Alex Cobb is not going to be making the difference.

I agree that if Mark wanted to pay Cobb, other than a bit of a crappy draft hamstring this year, I wouldn't have had a problem with it and it would've solidified the rotation a bit more. But you have to make the assumption that you like guys like Suter or Anderson or Cobb or Davies to think that Cobb is worthwhile.

I think it's ass now. Add both Nelson and Cobb to it, it's very solid, not elite, but solid.

If you think that, I'm not sure where the logical next step is to make a huge splash to try to compete with the Cubs, who you believe to be vastly superior. I'd probably be taking a wait-and-see approach to 2018 even with the Cain and Yelich moves, which seem to be good moves very early on.

You didn't mention a Stroman or Archer trade but if that is your opinion of the staff, then those would be very bad ideas of course.

Well, if Burnes is legit, then Davies is your 5, Woodruff 6 if we are talking the end of this season. It's getting to that point and not being buried that is the issue.

Yeah, I'd have been OK with Cobb. I don't think it changes thing that much if you don't like the guys we have, but I'd have taken him to improve depth even further.

I'm not sure they could afford him at that price is my fear. Either that or Stearns just didn't like the price.

The Cubs offense was terrible against us last year. 4.05 runs against us in 19 games, 5.21 runs against every other team in 143 games. Nearly half of their runs against us came in the first 6 games (38) which means they scored an average of 3 runs against us in the final 13 games.

Thats pretty crazy, I dont see that happening again. Let's hope otherwise
