Need Guerra to refind himself after the shaky LA start. Freddy has to keep those walks down.

If you told me ahead of time we'd get out of LA with a split, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. Of course we find a way to make a split super depressing but it is what it is. We're right where we need to be, no time to fall into another extended slump over one bad game.

Not only that, they made up a small amount of ground on the Cubs while they played the Pirates and 1 game against SD. If we can somehow still be alive after this weekend, the schedules the rest of the way are almost even between the Brewers and the Cubs. I'd still say the Cubs is easier but it's actually finally close.

Marquez has actually pitched decent away from Coors, same with Gray. Any other team Gray would be a ROY candidate, sadly he has to pitch in Coors.

Need to see something out of Moustakas and Schoop this weekend. Need Aguilar to start hitting again.

A big yes to all this.

Moustakas and Schoop likely are going to basically contribute by mashing the hell out of the mediocre/bad teams we play the rest of the way allowing us to hopefully win the division. Not expecting that much out of them @SF and against the Dodgers' staff @LAD. The Cubs' pitching isn't great so hopefully they contribute there as well.

"Well, we acquired them to hit against playoff teams!"

Moustakas just getting on base a handful of times and Schoop who obviously won't go 0/9 or whatever every time is a marginal upgrade over the even worse prospect of extra Villar/Hernan/Saladino/Arcia ABs. Yes, it's debatable with Schoop given his hacking nature.

Coincidentally, Phillips and Villar are mashing the league's dumpster of pitching right now @CWS and @Tex.

West Coast trip fatigue (plus Colorado was off yesterday) means likely loss.

The Rockies did play yesterday and Wade Davis blew the save in Classy Stadium.

To be fair to him, he's had a bit of bad luck this year and obviously there's the Coors part of it.

I've kinda justified what the Rockies have done in free agency because they have essentially 7 or so controllable pitchers for 3-5 more seasons.

Prior to yesterday, he had given up 8 runs all year on the road, 5 of which were @Texas in one blow-up.

One could argue that they should've spent all of their money on JD Martinez or somebody of that caliber. Beyond that, they're basically overpaying guys like Desmond, Davis, Shaw, McGee trying to patch holes. Every contract is pretty short and backloaded. Most of the guys mentioned are regressing but if their payroll is truly $130-140 million annually, they're in great shape for the foreseeable future.

Long story short - yes it was an overpay - but at the end of Arenado's tenure (FA after 2019) and at the back end of Blackmon's prime, they're overpaying a bunch of their mid-roster players. The one detriment is that they probably should be using guys like Dahl and instead are force-feeding Parra and Desmond more ABs, but they don't have much long-term commitment.

Schoop playing SS tonight. Yuni B. flashbacks.

Thames hitting 7th and Pina 8th is fun though, hopefully we can score some runs.

The Orioles would not give him back for Schoop straight-up ... man, how did AL pitchers not get Schoop out last week? Schoop looks absolutely hopeless at the plate!
