San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions announced today that they have agreed to a player-development contract (PDC) with the Milwaukee Brewers through the 2020 season.

The Brewers have had an existing four-year relationship with Elmore Sports Group-run Colorado Springs, which has relocated to San Antonio for the 2019 season.

"We are very excited to be working with the Milwaukee Brewers," said Missions President Burl Yarbrough. "With our promotion to the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, they will be terrific partners as we begin a new era of Missions baseball in 2019. The Brewers were in town last week to see our facility and discuss our renovation plans for the clubhouse and batting cages. After meeting with them and seeing their excitement for San Antonio, we feel the Brewers were the best fit for us. The Brewers have one of the top farm systems in baseball and we look forward to helping them put many more players into major league baseball."

That's good and bad. I think the main goal was to get a city with an accessible airport and San Antonio is so-so with that.

But the options I think were Fresno, Nashville, and San Antonio which appeared to be earmarked for Texas but I guess not so I think they did pretty well.

Well, at least we're out of Colorado Springs.

Nashville was preferable but they booted us out once so a deal was unlikely.

Yep, I think some bridges were burned on that one. If I recall correctly they screwed the Brewers on that deal. After building the new stadium they signed with the A's because they had better prospects at the time. Pretty ridiculous.

Don't really mind a rookie affiliate being at Colorado Springs other than the obvious "call up this 19-year-old 27th round pick because he's batting .380 this year" type of stuff. I guess they'll want to keep certain pitchers away from there but it's better than the AAA team being there.

We're moving from the mountains to the mountains. It's higher but it's not that big of a deal and the facilities in Colorado Springs compared to Helena are night and day.

The brewers under the Melvin years never used AAA for our top prospects. All of our top prospects were in AA and once ready were sent to the majors

This is not even close to being true.

Fielder, Braun, Hart, Hardy, Gallardo, Weeks, Cain, Cruz, Escobar, Lucroy, Gamel, Parra, Nelson, Peralta. Pretty much every top prospect you can name spent at least some time in AAA.

I don't remember anyone in the last 15 years making the AA to MLB jump

And now the A's left them for Vegas.

I am pretty sure this is the same ownership group as San Antonio so it was probably some kind of package deal.

Sounds ditched the A's, not the other way around.

Oh! I didn’t know that. How does Nashville keep attracting clubs? I guess if you have decent facilities you’re guaranteed at team.
