Didn't want to derail the Cardinals thread, so figured I'd start this one up.

Brewers outlook on offense is looking pretty damn good, assuming we don't have major fall off from anyone. Obviously, I don't expect a .973 OPS from Yelich again, but still, we are looking at every major bat being under control next year, outside of Moustakas, who is a mutual option. The big bats besides Braun are all under control until 2021 or 2022 (Shaw, Yelich, Cain, Aguilar). I'm guessing we see Hiura next year, but that's probably more likely if we lose Moustakas and Shaw shifts back to full-time 3B.

I think we could really use an upgrade at catcher. Whether that is Nottingham or someone outside the organization, who knows.

Rotation has seven guys to choose from IMO: Nelson, Anderson, Davies, Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff, Chacin. Who knows what Nelson will be next year. Woodruff and Burnes need to be legit.

Bullpen: Hader, Williams, Knebel, Jeffress form a pretty solid quartet.

In terms of the offseason, I think the primary goals are to turn Santana into trade value if you can, keep an eye out for another rotation piece, and upgrade catcher.

Schoop, while disappointing this year, is under team control next season too. Guessing Hiura starts in AAA and gets the bump at some point.

It's likely for $10 million so it'll be interesting.

I'm all for overpaying 1-year deals and I think Schoop is better than he's shown on the Brewers, but it'll depend on what their budget is.

I would trade for another MVP. Easy peasy

Yeah I would punt on Schoop for $10 million. I know it's "just" one year but I still wouldn't do it.

Woodruff and Guerra have been very solid out of the pen since being put there. Much rather give them a spot for the bottom of the bullpen than Barnes or Albers, plus they can easily go 2-3 innings if need be.

Albers is signed for $2.5, they could eat that if that had to. Barnes doesnt get to ARB 1 until 2020. Junior will be ARB 1 next year, not sure what he might get. Woofruff isn't Arb1 until 2021.

I wonder if Stearns would consider trading Aguilar? He's already 28 and I'm guessing won't age so great given his body type. But he's cheap and under team control through 2022 I think. Some AL team might want him to play 1B and DH.

Although looking at 2019 FA's there doesn't appear to be anything worthwhile out there to replace him.

Hoping that sterns can find anther diamond in the rough SP and turn him into gold. But for real would love to get a true ace. Mark A you want this team to be in real contention for years to come, go get an Ace. Sounds like an easy problem?

Yup he doesn't even hit ARB1 until 2020, FA in 2023.

I obviously agree. What salary would I take Schoop on? Probably a tops of $5M.

Can we swap Schoop and Moustakas's contract situations. Nobody will notice that, right?

Firmly agreed. The ship sailed on Barnes for me last year. Albers. Yuck. I actually think Woodruff in particular could be one of the more dynamic arms in the pen next year. He looks real real good right now. He had nasty stuff last night in St. Louis.

Depending on what the return is, I could see trading Aguilar and keeping moustakas around. See if you can teach him first or play Shaw over there. Need to be blown away though with the offer. Premium starting arm or stud catcher could be worth it.

Schoop can go regardless. I just am not interested in guys that can't draw walks and strikeout at such an alarming rate. Arcia is the heartbeat of the team it appears. If he can get his hitting closer to his numbers in '17 he's a no brainer at short. I could see Hiura lighting up spring training and earning the 2B job.

Just for fun I want the Red Sox to dump Thornburg so we can do another reclamation project.

Moustakas may not stay around. It's a mutual option so if he wants to cash in on a longer deal, he's gone.

In that situation of trading Jesus we're looking for a RH 1B option. I know Braun can play there a bit but you're a Braun injury away from having nothing in that capacity. It's an easy/sporadic position to fill but also could be a major weakness.

If they think it's something physical then they probably keep him on the 40 man and give him a shot next spring. But if they think he's just lost it and need that spot it wouldn't shock me if they just cut their losses and move on.


Thames is probably gone this winter. Because aglular is cheap and under control he's penciled in at 1st with Braun as the fall back plan if he turns out to be a one year wonder. Schoop is a tough call, maybe they find a better use for that money but because he's basically a 1 year rental it does set up as a nice bridge to hiura so it's not out of the question they keep him. Moose is interesting in I wonder if they pick up their half of his opinion making him choose if he wants to take the 1 nice year or try to hit FA. If he would stay then schoop is gone.

Throw whatever OTHER than Keston you can at Miami for Realmuto. Bring Moose back, see if you can bring Miley back and just keep a lock on his innings all season to try and keep him healthy.

They probably need to clear one guy out in the corner OF/IF logjam still, but are we sure Thames is gone?

It doesn't hurt to have a good hitter like that off the bench on a solid contract (1 year, $6 million with an option for 2020) that you can platoon with and also potentially use as your starting 1B if someone goes down.
