We don't know who we're playing but it seems silly to discuss this in the Cubs game thread.
Thursday - 4:07
Friday - 3:15
Sunday - 3:37

Wow these game times are trash. I have tix for both home games but have an end of the week deadline and might need to skip both since they’re during the work day.

Postseason Roster Preferences:
Granderson should be a lock. He's an all-around hitter. He can hit situationally to produce 1 run, or he can blow a game open with a multi-run homer. Plus he's no slouch in the field or on the bases. As a bonus he has experience.
Santana also should be a lock. He's in great form right now, looking like the player who posted a high .800's. That's a weapon off the bench. Next year could prove a starter again.
Schoop has to make it too, as much as he's sucked. Saladino and Miller fell off the table. MIF is a need now. Also kind of pushing it defensively playing Shaw at 2nd so often. Need a more natural MIF in the mix. Same thinking including Perez.
I also think it's Thames vs. Broxton. I think I lean Broxton. Both aren't seeing the baseball well at the plate right now. Both have pop to hit one out of the park in a pinch-hit capacity. But Broxton is the superior fielder and base-runner. Right-handedness is also an advantage when the Brewers seem to struggle against plenty of lefties with a fair amount in the lineup. Even Pina for whatever reason sees his effectively drop precipitously against them.
For the staff, I don't think they need a 4th starter. They can have bullpen games and short starts. Brewers could use a guy who gets lefties out, but their LOOGYs haven't been getting lefties out lately. If you're going to lean on the bullpen too they're not going to help you eat up innings. I might go Chase Anderson. He historically pitches significantly better against lefties, in spite of being a righty. He can eat innings. Has been decent this year and in December. Also can be a 4th starter if they are compelled to go that route.

Yep I had to change my plans with my boss about 4 times. Plus a 4.5 hour drive to get there. I'm going to both.

You probably do need a 4th starter or someone like Anderson or Guerra at the back of the bullpen for extra innings work. Doesn't have to be a starter but probably has to be a guy you aren't using like Burnes or Woodruff in earlier innings that can throw 75 pitches if necessary.

I don't think Granderson is needed if you have Perez. He can backup every spot if needed.

There aren't really a dearth of those types though between Woodruff, Burnes, and Guerra; who I viewed as locks. But Anderson would indeed supplement.
Speaking of Woodruff, it looks like he's gained a lot of trust from Counsell lately because he was warming up in the 9th inning yesterday to come in if Hader got in more trouble. That's almost a complete 180 in terms of faith. He would have been called upon to save the most important game of the year.

Part of that is Jeffress' random absence. Sounds like he wasn't available. That said, yes, Woodruff is moving up the pecking order since he looks pretty good as a reliever.

I just can't see how it would be Anderson over Guerra. They didn't trust him to take the ball in any capacity the last 2 weeks of the season.

Perez may be needed in MIF at the time because of the thinness there. There's also nearly a .200 OPS gap against left-handers between him and Granderson. Granderson is just better because of his patience and situational hitting. Plus he's more experienced. His presence is required imo.

Pulling for the Rockies today. I just want to be done with the Cubs for this year. I'm sure they will be huge players in FA and a huge factor in the division again next year so just send them home this year.

I am too. While the brewers just won a low scoring game in Chicago I feel more comfortable going to Denver and getting into a HR hitting contest than I would playing cold crap weather games in Chicago.
Plus it would hurt less to lose this round to the Rockies than the Cubs.

Yup losing to the Cubs in the NLDS negates the thrill of the tie breaker win. Not that they'd be a lock against us but I think they win tonight. GO ROCKIES

Yeah, and it's not just the homers (you do get more of them there than most places) - it's mostly the hits (and a lot of doubles and triples) with the very cavernous field.

Kind of surprised Miller Park is that low.
I doubt Anderson makes the roster either way but to me he's an absolute no go if they play the Rockies. I would assume every pitch he threw was going to leave the yard.

I don't know what the formula is and if they normalize for pitching, but I think this year Miller Park is low in runs due to the Brewers having a collectively good pitching staff this year and mostly last year for the first time in decades. Ditto for Coors being #2 for runs this year, a huge upset from it being #1 by a massive margin for almost all recent years.

Yeah need pitchers who keep the ball on the ground. Would be nice if Woodruff could come in with him pitching in Colorado this year.
