NLDS Game 1: Rockies at Crew - 4:07 - FS1

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Thu Oct 4, 2018 1:13 pm

As I'm posting this the Brewers have not released their roster for this series.

8 in a row, let's keep it going. Winning game 1 is HUGE.

Kenny Albert, David Cone and AJ Pierzynski in the booth. Jon Morosi on the field.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Woodruff will start. I'm assuming if he's rolling he could go 2-3 innings but if game situation dictates we may go to Miley for a long stretch.

From Adam's tweet, looks like Woodruff will probably pitch 2 innings only to avoid the second time through the order.

Yeah that is likely, it'll be game-dependent. If the Brewers get off to a big lead in the bottom of the 1st they may let him ride for 3 innings. If Woodruff puts Arenado and Story on in the 1st, they may go to a lefty to try to get Dahl out.

ill be there,
and i hope the fans are loud and we rock that place

Guerra did pitch well vs Rockies the first 2 times through their order, maybe he will get to pitch 2 innings in this game?

Peralta, Guerra, Woodruff will all probably play key roles. Those 3 will probably be tasked with a 2-3 inning stretch against Arenado, Story, DJ, Desmond (if he's in), Holliday (if he's in) in the first 2 games.

I'm not a fan of "bullpen game" for Game 1, but I've also questioned Counsell quite a bit this season and look at where he has this team.

Here's how I'd reassure you (I know you are trusting the process here):

Do you think Miley (the Rockies hit lefties very well) or Woodruff/Burnes/Hader/Peralta/Cedeno in some combination playing matchups is better to stop an opponent for 5 innings? I am going to guess you agree with the 2nd grouping being the option.

So, in the playoffs, where you may be risking burning the bullpen early but should be fine, why not guarantee that you get those superior innings? If game situation provides, you can throw Miley in there for 4 innings in the middle of the game but you want to get optimal innings in the game.

I am certain that if the bullpen does struggle early that a lot of people will be mad but you have to remind yourself that your other option was Wade Miley against a bunch of really tough righties for 5 innings and he might've fared worse.

What if you started Miley and he got lit up? Now you never even got to use the strength of your team (the bullpen) because you've been blown out.

I was a little surprised at first but after thinking about how alverado and story hammer lefties I don't mind going some combo if woodruff, burnes, perata, loogy to get there instead of Miley.

This really only impact those long guys from an availability stand point. Guys like hader, knebel, soria, jeffress would pitch in a close game regardless. And all those guys expect probably hader are used to pitching a lot and can go every damn game this series if needed because of the off days.

Given Freddy Peraltas games against Colorado, surprised he isn't lining up against them. But I did hear something like he only started two games in September, so maybe he is rusty?

Congrats to Bernman with no Jennings or Cedeno.

I do get it as you have either of the lefty "starters," Hader, or just really good relievers to try to get Dahl/CarGo out but Arenado/Story are much bigger threats.

This roster shows how much more they trust their young pitchers than the likes of Davies and Anderson.

Kind of nuts they are the 1 seed and only have 1 guy who opened the season in the rotation on their playoff roster.
