Yikes. Pirates Closer Felipe Vasquez is in jail after being arrested for child porn and soliciting a child.

I mean, he's done in baseball right? Even if he somehow evades those charges who would want him in a clubhouse?

They've got a lot of evidence, it seems. I find it unlikely he'll get out of prison any time soon.

Optimal outcome to the playoff-relevant series' ahead are Nationals 2-Cards 1 and Cubs 4-Cards 3, IMO. So you get a chance to gain a little ground on each team, but especially the divisional leader so you can potentially avoid that play-in game. If one team is dominant in those series' then it increases the chances of making the play-in games, but that's volatile.

Not to dance on the Cubs' grave yet given they could still catch the Brewers and/or win the division, but very interesting 2 years after this for them.
My guess is that they'll continue to go all-in on overpriced pitching and pray that they can work enough magic to get into the playoffs and catch lightning in a bottle. They'll probably have $40-50 million to work with if they plan on going way over the luxury tax again next year.
After 2021, Bryant, Rizzo, Baez all are at the end of their deals unless Baez signs an extension given he's on a lower arbitration number than Bryant and Rizzo already signed a pre-arby extension. I'm not sure I'd want to keep any of them other than maybe Baez given the years it would cost.
They probably will be competent again for the next 2 years and then a dumpster fire as they sort out end-of-contract Heyward/Darvish/Kimbrel in '22/'23 and the other pitchers they may sign into that timeframe.
These are the pitchers next year under contract (years signed for)
Lester (1 + 1 opt)
Darvish (4)
Quintana (1)
Kimbrel (2 + 1 opt)
Hendricks (4 + 1 opt)
Chatwood (1)
Phelps (probably will pick up the 1 year option)
That's a lot of work to do. There have been rumors of it for years but they might really have to trade some offensive firepower for some arms.

They don't really have the offensive firepower to trade at this point. All the guys that might have been available have all proven to be deeply flawed major leaguers.

Pretty much. Might be able to get a flawed pitcher with upside for Schwarber but that’s probably it outside of Contreras, Russo, Bryant, Baez. Maybe Caratini gets them a lower-end pitcher.

I kinda wanted a chance at the division still but this is a funny collapse to watch.

Mets lost too which helps as they are the only team left that has/had a chance behind the cubs.

The Cards really needed to concede 1 for the Brewers to have a realistic chance. Cubs get swept in 4 games at home instead. Good for nothing for their fans and us as well. The Cubs have had a really short run as a baseball power. Back to being irrelevant.
At least need to get that top wild card spot for homefield w/ the Nationals bringing an ace to the mound and the Brewers probably going Johnny Wholestaff. Crew owns the tiebreaker on head-to-head, right? But Nationals still control their own destiny because of playing 2 extra games. Philly should be motivated to beat them with them still technically being in the race.
