So straight platoon with Braun at 1B? There has to be a trade or two coming.

Sure, seems like a very Travis Shaw type.

I’m sure Braun will get some OF time still as well.

Smoak was very unlucky last year with the bat. It's possible he has a bit of a resurgence in the friendly confines of Milwaukee. He is also a switch hitter and a decent defensive 1st basemen.

He could flop or he could be a pleasant surprise. Time will tell.

We'll see how it all turns out but one thing they've definitely done this offseason is kept flexibility going forward. Mostly short deals with options. If the season goes sideways they could have some pieces to flip at the deadline and also have a ton of payroll room next winter if they want to.

We'll see if they add another higher price guy this winter, it's a possibility but not a given. If they don't they should have the ability to take a decent sized contract at the trade deadline if things are going right.

Now it would seem the next logical move would be to deal Arcia and add a 3rd baseman. Do that and have Sogard as the super sub across the IF and insurance if Urias struggles. Braun bounces between 1st and the OF. Would be a pretty deep position group.

Seems like the logical finish to the offseason is:

Stay in on Donaldson. Probably won't get him, but if you do, throw Arcia away in some trade

If not that, throw Acria into a Seager trade.

If not that, maybe some Hader trade out of left field that brings back a 3B.

I like the move (Smoak) and am very pleased with what Stearns has done with the offense.

I see some still think a move could be coming for 3B. But I am guessing the offense is pretty well set.

Thames/Moose/Grandal/Shaw/Perez/Grisham

Replaced with:
Urias (SS/2B)
Smoak (1B)
Narvaez (C)
Healy (3B)
Nerd (IF)
Garcia (OF)

I'm ok with that. And for the most part, the 0 WAR difference says alot. We lost 3 players that did really well for us and basically turned it into: Improved middle IF, will get similar production at 1B, improved the OF, multiple players at 3B (Nerd/Healy), and less production/defense at C.

A full year with Hiura's batting and poor fielding (lol), and hopefully a healthy year for Cain.

Pitchers:
Davies/Anderson/Gio/Lyles/Pomeranz

B.Anderson/Lauer/Lindbolm

We do get Knebel back this year. But I still see some work with the pen. Although, it would be nice if Burnes goes back to 2 years ago and Peralta gains some consistency.

Optimistic that this team as is can replicate last year....

I will be shocked if Healy is in the majors to start the year barring injury to someone else. I know he has home run potential but I think they'll do something else at 3B...he does not seem like the type of player that Stearns would give a major role to.

Arcia gets dumped somewhere and Sogard is super-utility in the infield.

They're trying to patch it together and hoping they can tape over the holes they've got in their roster. If they can supplement these moves with a couple significant additions, they can be compelling next year.

Totally agree. I almost get the sense they are okay with taking a mini step back and have added a bunch of very cost effective pieces that could net a nice return if flipped at the deadline. It's just smart asset management.

So Travis Shaw had one of the worst offensive years of a position player in recent memory and is looking for $5mil... Bold strategy well see how that works out.

I'd bet he's closer to his career average next year than what he did in 2019. I'm sure he is, too.
