That's wild, he's going to be 38 in July and has a ton of mileage on his arm.

I'm interested to see what the new CBA brings.

That said, I do believe these moves will fall short of expectations for the Mets.

However, it's not like Machado/Harper type of free agents are out there right now. The Mets can do both things at once.

Again, not sure what the new CBA brings, but Cohen even though he's splashing money all over the place right now probably will still want to stay under the luxury tax in 3 years if the system is similar/the same. But there's nothing wrong with him trying to buy a competitive team for 3 years as they build a core of young stars in the minors in the process.

So what do the Mets need Stearns for

The Dodgers seem to be doing pretty well with Friedman.

These signings will keep the Mets competitive for 1-2 years. They need somebody to figure out how to be elite after that.

Hate MLB. Obviously many/most/all/none of the Mets signings may work out for them but if they don't they will just buy more players. Meanwhile the Yelich contract will be an anchor for a long time (maybe, I'm still hopefully he'll somehow regain his form).

I know a lot want a salary floor but IMO a harder cap would be better.

Yes, some of these teams are trying to milk profits and not spending what they should, but also a team that drafts a few busts, makes a few bad moves has zero incentive to spend when they know they're going to finish 20 games behind the Yankees anyways and hurt their draft stock.

That’s the best one of the three value-wise. He’s pretty good.

He was mostly neutral but you always have to factor in Coors Field on pitchers. He’s also pretty good.

I’m a Semien fan but there are high odds he’s barely above replacement value with like $130 million left in 2023 or so.

The Rangers’ timing is curious to me. They hollowed the **** out of that roster. They now basically have these 3 guys + all replacement-level players. I don’t think they have a necessarily loaded farm system. Semien is already 30.

Lotta off-season left, they may have a lot more up their sleeve since they are nowhere near the luxury tax.

Yeah I’m not really a fan of anything they did.
