Not much drama with an 11 game lead. But only a half game behind L.A. and one behind Philly so keep it going.
Tuesday - 6:45 - Montas vs. Fedde
Wednesday - 6:45 - Myers vs. Gibson - FS1/BSWI
Thursday - 1:15 - Civale vs. Mikolas

If you told me that we'd lose all of Burnes, Woodruff, and Miley from the rotation while getting nothing out of Ashby for a second consecutive season, I would have told you that this was a bottom-5 starting rotation in baseball. Being #2 in team ERA this deep into the year is **** crazy.

Murphy has some head scratching lineups and some head scratching decisions but what manager doesn't over 162 games? He should be a lock for manager of the year. Vogt is certainly up there.

I was definitely bullish coming into the year. Not THIS bullish though. I had 86 wins in the prediction thread because I predicted exactly what they've done with the pitching/defense, but did not expect an also good offense.
You can't judge a smart team like it's 1995 anymore. "Look at this starting rotation."
A smart team can quantify how to build an elite defense and mix/match the entire organization worth of pitchers in different ways with their pitching lab. That's what the Brewers have done with their bites of the apple. We have to just enjoy the ride that will probably still die in the playoffs year after year.

I wonder if analytics are under valuing the impact of good defense on pitching. I get we have stats to measure the impact of good defenders getting to balls that most won't but I wonder if there's a mental aspect where pitchers are more confident/calm when they know they have great defense behind them and they pitch differently.

It's the hardest to quantify (defense) and I'm guessing the Brewers and MLB teams have tools that are much better than Fangraphs, etc...
But that is where I think the Brewers have had an edge. They can quantify things in their pitching lab and defensive analysis that make them always exceed what the common tools (Fangraphs) have.

Was Turang not getting blocked there? I do not get what is or isn't with that rule.

I think Chourio's hot streak might officially be over.

Maybe just small sample luck, but LOL if the Brewers just pulled a good MLB pitcher out for junk (I did like Junis, though) with the pitching lab.

Hoskins being so slow has got to annoy a few people in the dugout

I'm not really sure why Montas didn't come back out to start the 8th? He was at 89 pitches and had given up 1 hit.
