So, what is going wrong on this road trip?

I'm sitting here trying to think about why the Brewers are 1-5 on this road trip, trying to pinpoint where the weakness has been. Starting rotation, offense, defense, bullpen, managing, all of it has fallen off during this road trip. What caused it? A good team in the Mets shaking the confidence of this team? Underestimating a Phillies team hovering around .500? It's really hard for me to find the glaring problem, and it just seems like everything fell like dominoes. It won't stay like this, this is a good team, but I feel like I'm watching the Brewers of, oh, the last 15 years lately.

There's some rambling for ya, enjoy

-Insufficient and inconsistant offensive production, Rely on the HR too much.
-Prone to the on big bad inning (especially SP)
-Bullpen cant hold a lead.
-Slight decline in defense with 4 Errors in the 5 losses
-Turnblow turn to blow
-Managing decisions, especially Bullpen decisions

In other words...

Everything...

I think it's really just that teams go through rough stretches during this humongous season. But a combination of everything has gone wrong.

I think this team is really starting to feel the pressure. They need some of the vets to calm them down. I mean, Soup, Graffanino, and Counsell have won world series rings. They need to take charge.

i figure its early in the season and they're still figuring out how to win. yost may have had similar teams in atlanta, but has never led one. i know svuem has been around a couple years but its probably his first time in a role like this too. so, given time i think the team will come around real strong later on this year, its just how long does it take to get there. could be tomorrow, could be in a month

What are they going to do,give a speech and bingo, the losing stops?

That stuff is overrated, hell Suppan gave up a 3 run bomb that sealed todays game even with him being a seasoned vet. This stuff happens during a 162 game season and particularily on a long road trip vs good teams. We weren't going to continue playing .700 baseball, nobody does.

Right now Weeks and Hall are in a slump.Counsell and Graffanino suck regardless if they have World Series rings.Suppan wasn't going to keep a sub-3 ERA all season,Turnbow was due to stop being unhittable every game he pitches, and sooner or later Cordero with blow a few saves.

A baseball season is a marathon, fans gotta avoid panicing when their team hits rough patches. We aren't getting beat at home by AA baseball teams, most clubs will struggle on a road trip like we are in.The key is to not go into a huge tailspin and i don't think we will.

I generally agree with your philosophy. However, I think that one of the things that makes good teams great is veterans leading the way for their younger counterparts. I don't think they need to make speeches and all that jazz...but they need to lead by example. Keep the mood light...keep guys focused. I think guys like Weeks, Hardy, Fielder, and Billy are young and may be prone to getting a little tense and placing too much pressure upon themselves, which is something obivously evident with their pitch selection and such...and that's where guys like Counsell, Graffanino, and Soup come into the picture and display the professionalism and lets-get-em-next-time mentality to keep them focused.
