vs
Records at Glance: Brewers: 31-25 (1st, NL Central); Marlins: 27-29 (4th NL East)
TV: FSN Wisconsin
Radio:620 WTMJ
Ben Sheets, RHP (5-3, 3.82)
Dontrelle Willis, LHP (7-3, 4.83)
Scouting Report
Brewers: Sheets' last start was pushed back a day because of a blister on the middle finger of his right hand, but he pitched well in a victory over Atlanta Tuesday night. The right-hander gave up three runs before recording an out, then settled down to pitch scoreless baseball for six innings. He has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last eight starts.
Marlins: His ERA hasn't been outstanding, but the bottom line is Willis is finding ways to win. The D-Train beat the Cubs in the second game of the road trip, giving up four runs in seven innings. He has won two straight decisions, and the Marlins have won the 25-year-old left-hander's last three starts. Willis has yielded five home runs in his last five starts.
Brewers Probable Lineup:
RF Corey Hart
SS JJ Hardy
3B Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
RF Kevin Mench
CF Bill Hall
C Damian Miller
2B Tony Graffanino
P Ben Sheets
Marlins Probable Lineup:
CF Alfredo Amezaga
2B Dan Uggla
SS Hanley Ramirez
3B Miguel Cabrera
LF Josh Willingham
C Miguel Olivo
1B Aaron Boone
RF Jeremy Hermida
P Dontrelle Willis
Captain Erv's Thoughts: Coming off a tough loss with some questionable managing by Yost, the Brewer look to win their first series in a fortnight. It will be a tall order against the D-Train, but I think he is beatable. Sheets has been good for the past 3+ weeks so lets hope he isn't due for a blowup start. Let's get this win and then kick the Cubs when they are down!

Man I wish Sheets knew how to win. His ERA is more than a run less than Willis' but he has two less wins and the same number of losses. What a loser!

I just hope Sheets can get out of the 1st inning with out giving up any runs. If he does he is usually pretty solid

Cory Hart needs to make more starts. I really like him in the Leadoff spot. He is faster than I expected and he makes good contact at the plate and is a great baserunner. I think he needs to be the every day leadoff till Weeks gets back.

Hall would be making the same amount of money this year even if he didn't sign the contract.

How is that when they gave him a new contract and are paying him more. I know he got a good signing bonus.

He would have gotten roughly the same in arbitration.
They don't have signing bonuses in baseball.

Actually he took a little bit of a paycut this year. He wanted $4.125M in arbitration and the Brewers offered $3M. Usually if you go to arbitration you try to split it down the middle.
Hall signed for $3M with a $500,000 signing bonus for a total salary of $3.5M this year.

Guess I was wrong about the signing bonuses. Why do they even do that when contracts are guaranteed?
I was aware they would give signing bonuses to draft picks since those contracts are contingent on the player progressing to the majors, but I don't see any reason why signing bonuses would be given for MLB contracts.
