Weeks has been ready to go for a few days now. Yost said this yesterday:

"Of course, you (ideally) want Rickie to go on a (minor-league) rehab so he's ultra-sharp when he comes back," Yost said. "But we don't really want to do that so he's going to have to sharpen up his offensive skills with us.

I don't get it. "Ideally" you want him to go to the minors and then "we don't really want to do that". What does that mean? Did Weeks refuse to do it?

One batting session against Elmer is not good enough. He could have been with Nashville over the weekend to get some live pitching and fielding. Instead he sits in the dugout in Minnesota.

Weeks didn't refuse to do it or anything like that.

I recently communicated with someone within the organization about this very issue (I was perplexed as well) and was informed that Weeks will continue to have an issue with the scar tissue on his wrist, at least for the rest of this season.

Therefore, a decision was made not to "waste his at bats" on a rehab assignment, given that there is a belief that he has a finite number of ABs at his disposal before needing to be placed on the DL again. They hope to somehow avoid that, or at least limit it to just one more short stint on the DL (or perhaps one week of not playing at some point, without going on the DL).

We are also supposed to expect to see a platoon of Counsell/Graffanino at 2B once a week still, with them trying to relegate Rickie to 5 games each week, six at the most (although in a seven game week, Rickie still might only play 5 of those games).

There is a concern that the scar tissue issue will continue to have a negative effect on Weeks' production throughout the season as well, although the hope is that if given one or two days of rest each week, that negative impact can be reduced.

Man that is not good news. I understand not "wasting" his at bats. But sitting for 3 weeks means his batting eye isn't going to be all that sharp.

Is he ever going to be 100% or will this linger past this season?

Their belief is that this will not linger past this season, and that an offseason of rest will preclude this from being a problem in the future.

I personally don't know much about the Weeks injury/surgery, but part of the decision making process not to have Weeks do a rehab assignment was based on medical opinions the Brewers sought and received on this issue.

Yea, he didn't look too bad last night.

With 3 weeks of rest he'll do fine. The question will be how will he feel 3 weeks from now.

He had four hits in his first game back in LA, then he has a couple doubles in his first game back last night. I guess his eye stays pretty sharp. Not a bad guy to have in the 8 spot.

Weeks is hitting the ball hard. He's almost hitting them out down the middle and opposite field. He's doing well. Hall is hitting it hard too. They're not getting rewarded quite like they are hitting but it's really nice to have those two guys hitting well in the 2nd half of the lineup.

this wrist injury will haunt him his whole career. it will swell and irritate with the daily stress, and he'll have to recuperate here and there forever. the talk that it's something that will magically disappear after this season defies logic--he had the whole offseason to heal, and hasn't. just watch his wrist speed after resting a few days, then when it's nagging him. last night was a strong wrist driving it to the wall.

I disagree Asher. From what the doctors have said, it is very normal for the injury to still hinder you up to about a year after surgery because of the scar tissue. After a year, everything is much more settled and he shouldn't have all that much trouble with it. I may be wrong, but it certainly doesn't defy logic -- as you put it -- that it could certainly could work out that way.

There are a lot of sports injuries that take well over a year before a guy is back to what he was prior to the surgery.
