Rosenthal says that there have been rumblings about this.
This makes no sense but a rotation of Sheets, Capuano, Buehrle, Suppan, and Gallardo sounds pretty good.

He's good but also a FA after this season. Hate to give up young studs for him. And it WOULD take Gallardo + to get him.

I doubt it, actually. I think a deal could still be made with CV and one of our outfielders. I don't think the Brewers would have to give up Gallardo and I don't think the Sox should expect us to considering Buehrle is a three month rental.

Agreed. Not a chance he'll fetch a talent like Gallardo.

I know the Sox need OFs so how about we throw Gwynn and Bush or Vargas for Buehrle?

I agree. I think Gwynn has potential to be solid for this team in the future. His quickness in the field and running the bases is good, and he could be a great guy towards the top of the order, or batting 8th to kind of spark things down there in the order.

While I dont think it would take a top tier return like Yo to get Buehrle, if anyone thinks the Sox are going to take our garbage like Mench or Gross I think they overestimate the stupidity of their management.

Well, if we give them CV and Bush/Vargas, which would be quite a value considering their age, production, and salary, we might be able to get away with Mench or Gross. Remember, we traded Carlos Lee for one good player (Coco), one average player at best, and junk (sorry Laynce Nix). We might be able to package CV, Bush/vargas, and Gross, for Buehrle. We then bring up Gwynn and when Cappy returns, we'll be set.
Rotation:
Sheets
Buehrle
Capuano
Suppan
Gallardo
Bush/Vargas in the bullpen.
Outfielders: Jenks, Hall, Hart, with Gwynn and Mench on the bench.

I'm really high on CV too, but something's got to give for us to acquire Buehrle. And because I doubt they'd take a Bush/Vargas plus junk deal, I think we'd have to include something of value. It's either Gallardo or CV. Right now, I would deal CV in a heartbeat.

For Buehrle? A guy who is going to leave after the season? It also brings another problem, a bullpen arm. Our second best reliever who can go 2 or more innings and a probable starter in the future. I would not trade anyone in the majors for Buehrle. If they want prospects from our farm system fine but unless they want Mench or something I'm not trading anyone from our major league roster.

why not give them a package of bush/vargas + zach jackson and maybe mench/gross/nix and then try and sign him to a 5 yr deal if we do pry him away

i want cv in our rotation one day, i don't want him going anywhere...if buehrle doesn't throw a no hitter no one is having this discussion. still don't think he's worth anything of value for us pitching wise (cv, gallardo)

What are you guys talking about? Buehrle is 4-4 with a 3.39 ERA IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE. He's been coming on in his last few starts. He's battle-tested. And you're not going to give up anything of value for him? Right now, we have three available pitchers sitting there who are worse than Buehrle: Bush, Vargas, and CV. In my opinion, one of them is going to have to go sooner than later because Gallardo is going to take his spot in the rotation when Cappy comes back. So we have to deal one. I like CV, but he has the most value of the three. If you want to make a run at a world series in a watered down national league, you make the deal.
We're going to end up running into this problem next year, too, with those three. Three pitchers, and only one rotation spot. (Sheets, Cappy, Suppan, Gallardo). What are you going to do with those two who don't make it? Relegate them to long-relief? Maybe. But why not deal them now, while they have value, for a pitcher who could put you over the top?

The Brewers have too many starters, and we don't need Buehrle, so what would this accomplish? It would be a three month rental, and I don't want to trade promising prospects.

no thanks on buerhle unless it involved Bush/Vargas + our outfield depth (Gwynn, Mench, anyone in AAA). But I don't think that will be enough to get it done. I'd maybe include one of our young minor league arms in there too.
No way on Gallardo, but I'm sure the Sox would ask form (if they're asking the yanks for Hughes and the Red Sox for Bucholz, there's no question they'd demand Gallardo).
I have a feeling the value will get too high for what Melvin is willing to part with (certainly not Gallardo and I doubt CV). The benefit with trading for Buerhle, however, is that even if you don't sign him to FA contract, you get two first round picks for him if he signs elsewhere (the teams #1 as well as a sandwich pick).

There is a zero percent chance Gallardo is traded. It would be a disaster on the field, in the PR department, and in terms of salary ramifications since he's dirt cheap for several seasons. You flat out don't trade a young pitcher who is that good unless you are getting a super stud who won't leave after 3 months.
Villanueva, Bush, Gwynn, etc. would be what we would be looking at in a trade. Maybe some high ceiling guy we have lower in the minors as well. Hell, maybe Inman.
