The State of the Brewers

Post#1 » by Posey H8er » Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:17 am

brewcityboii posted a similar thread in our board, and I was wondering if you guys could put some input into the Brewers. I haven't been following anyone but Chicago lately, and Milwaukee has been doing very well I believe.

1st- base in the all star game currently belongs to prince
8- brewers victories in the last 10 games
27- Coco's MLB leading amount of saves
100- Brewers team total in HRs, second in the MLB

Actually it's 102 team HR's now.

-We've won 9 of our last 11
-Our offense has scored 6.6 runs per game in the past 11 games
-Our pitching has allowed 4 runs per game in the past 11 games
-Yovani Gallardo rocks
-Ditto for Ryan Braun
-Chris Spurling sucks
-Ditto for Jose Capellan
-Ditto for Brian Shouse

Finally we lost a heartbreaker today in 11 innings after Corey Hart hit a game tying homerun in the 9th inning today. Our manager thought it was a good idea to put in our second worst reliever for a second inning today, when he preceeded to load the bases with nobody out the manager thought it would be a good idea to bring in our worst reliever when our second best reliever was still in the bullpen. Our worst reliever then walked Joey Gathright on 5 pitches which turned out to be the winning run.

Well I didn't want to turn this into a bash thread, because I could easily post similar stuff as well, but I will not.

The Best thing that sums up the brewerws IMO is that this is a very talented young team with tons of power at the plate with a manager that has no clue how to use his bullpen and seems to make very questionable decisions in crunch time moments.

As for the Players Corey Hart is unreal, best leadoff hitter the brewers have had in a long time. Rickie Weeks is a decent bat an inconsistent glove and is anti-clutch, JJ Hardy has been playing out of his mind he has a good power bat and is probally our best infield defender, Ryan Braun is Really Really Good his bat is unbelievable and is only going to get better. The big knock on him was that his D was a liability but he has been playing the hot corner fairly well. Prince Fielder I dont think I even need to eleborate. Bill Hall is finally starting to adjust to CF and is batting much better in June than he had in the first 2 months he has made some really spectacular plays out in CF as well. Geof Jenkins is are only real vet that has been on the team for a while he is good bat and a consistent OF.

Pitching:
Sheets-An Absolute stud very hard for hitters to stay ahead of in pitch counts
Suppan-The most overpaid pitcher in the league right behind Carl Pavano
Bush-Good command pitcher usually struggles very hard in innning 1 or 7 but to his credit has put together a few solid outings as of late
Vargas-Good stuff can never give you more than 6 innings though
Cappuano-A great 2 pitcher in my opinion and always seems to be a great option against the Cubs
Gallardo-The kid is GREAT. in the minors this year he was 8-3, 2.90era, 77.2 IP, 110K, 29BB, 1.04 WHIP

The Bullpen
COrdero-The man has got some nasty stuff if he can locate his slider...But it is always good when he comes in.
Turnbow-Good stuff if his command is on, has a major tendancy to get down after giving up a hit or walk and than just blowing the game up....and hes a hippie so I hope they get rid of him
The rest of the pen is shaky at best besides Carlos Villanueva who is slowly becoming a great long reliever.

Sorry for the bash by the bucksfan no need for that. Lets get ready for the weekend series

The Brewers are obviously playing great ball, having the second best record in the NL at the moment.

The most exciting thing is that it is being done on the backs of a bunch of young kids that came up through our system. With our regular lineup, the only starting positional player that isn't from our system is Estrada behind the plate. Around the IF you have Prince (age 23), Weeks (24), Hardy (24), and Braun (23). In the OF you have Hart (25), Hall (27), and Jenks (32). Every one of those guys is a Brewer draft pick.

We also had possibly the top positional prospect and pitching prospect in AAA join the club recently. Braun has been nothing short of fantastic after being plugged into the #3 hole in his second game. Yovani Gallardo might be the best pitching prospect in baseball and he looks like a super stud with his great command and excellent curve. He has a pre-injury Mark Prior type fastball where it is basically always on the black (not trying to rub it in, Prior might have been my favorite pitcher in baseball a few years ago).

Its a great time to be a Brewers fan.

I totally agree with you. But, may I post the similar stats...

4.3- Average IQ of the Cubs baseball crew.
43-Number of wins the Cubs will get(Says the experts)
0-Number of players that will be in the Allstar game.

I tried to research some more, but I was getting pretty jelous, so I had to stop. Don't thank me for finding these, it was pretty easy to get.

I would act like I've been there, but I was born in 84. I haven't been there. But seriously, I do hate the cubs more than anything in the world, but I can't rip on them...here.

there's a logjam in the outfield between hall, jenkins, hart, gross, mench, and gwynn jr.--the first three don't look to be going anywhere anytime soon (plus we just drafted a guy to play left for us eventually) so speculation has been that a trade will happen around the deadline with one of those guys going for probably relief pitching. very long run-on sentence? yes. one of our minor league pitchers just threw a perfect game, and for the most part we've still got a good amount of talent waiting and playing down there. right now we have the best first baseman and best closer in the game, and arguably one of the best starting pitchers.
ayt and brewcityboii said it all pretty well.

To help Digital Fool out,

The offense seems to have balanced itself out, acting much like the offense of April in which no one really stood out for awhile until Hardy went on fire, followed by Fielder.

Pitching staff has been solid with a few hiccups in Bush, Vargas, and now Suppan. Sheets is pushing for an All-Star bid, and with Capuano on the DL right now, both Gallardo and Villanueva pushing for a spot in the rotation.

Bullpen has been decent, but needs some solidification, particularly with left-handed pitching. Brian Shouse is the only lefty, a lefty specialist who hasn't been doing his job very well. Corder has been phenomenal, Turnbow has been good for the most part, Wise and Spurling have been ok.

Hope this helps out a little more

Umm...if you're going to bash the Cubbies, at least be accurate. They'll get at least 1 player in the ASG no matter how bad they are, and they'll win more than 43 games.

I know why this turned into a Cubs bashing thread...we hate the Cubs, they hate us...but let us not become classless and become inable to have a reasonable conversation because of a rivalry.

Just to add the most important thing. The Brewers are back to having the best record in the NL.

43 wins? we are only 6 wins away from that before the all-star break in case you missed the memo.
You are embarrassing your board since most of the posters here are classy and I thank you guys for that.

Meanwhile you guys have classy posters here like you, AYT, trwi7, Captain Erv 40, MickeyDavis, and a ton of other posters I am missing and these 2 are bringing you guys down.
