Because i personally think Gallardo will be sent back down.

Sounds like Gallardo will be moved to the pen. That way they can limit his innings while still giving him big league experience, and he'll be ready to go the next time a starter goes down.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Some pitchers can go back and forth between starter and pen, but some can't. I'd rather experiment on Bush or Vargas.

It's interesting that Vargas and Bush have been pitching as if their spot in the rotation is a stake and Suppan is pitching like a guy with a long term big money contract who knows he's in the rotation no matter what.

He has really been struggling lately even when he got the win on Friday against the royals he gave up a lot of runs.

That would really be interesting if they put him in the bullpen. I mean if they are going to do that they should have just let CV make a couple of starts.

I don't know about you but I'd like Gallardo's arm to stay attached for more than this year. You need to limit his innings and the bullpen is the way to go.

But what kind of role would he play in the bull pen?

i don't get it. throwing every fifth day like he's done all season is going to make him explode into flames and die? he's thrown more innings than vargas.

He's 21 so I can see the need to not blow out his arm. But sometimes it's better to throw every 5th day and be on a strict pitch count, rather than pitch sporadically. Relievers have to be able to pitch on consecutive days and often are fully warmed up and end up not going in the game. You can end up with more wear and tear on your arm that way.

Conventional wisdom says you shouldn't increase a young pitchers workload by more than 25 IP or so per year. He threw 155 last year. So far this year he has 77 in AAA and now 13 in the majors. If you continue to start him the rest of the year and into the playoffs he's going to go way over the 180 or so you should limit him to.

I say put him back in the pen for awhile to limit his innings then use him as a starter again later in the year and the playoffs. He'd make a hell of a 2nd setup man alongside T-Bow and a great 7th inning guy alongside CV.

I don't want to see a super stud pitching prospect blow his arm out for basically no reason. Phenom pitchers don't get hurt throwing out of the pen. They get hurt pitching too much as starters at a young age.

i have no problem shutting the guy down if his innings get high. but you can shut him down a month from now, too. he's hot right now. i found this on the brewers website, which pretty much goes back and forth, but he will make another start:
