Call up Parra; Forget Spurling

Getting the call: Triple-A Nashville Sounds teammate Calix Crabbe told Gwynn about Hall's injury before the team's game in Oklahoma City on Thursday. But Crabbe, Gwynn and the rest of the team believed the Brewers were poised to promote left-hander Manny Parra, who was held out of his scheduled start.
"I tried not to worry about it," Gwynn said. "I tried to go out and work on the things I was working on. After the game, I was told it was me. Then I could be happy about it."
Parra started for Nashville on Friday. By that time, Gwynn was in Washington with the Brewers, hoping to make the most of his second stint.
"It's another opportunity for me to hopefully get to stick the rest of the season," Gwynn said. "I'll try to hold the fort down until Billy gets back."
This tells me that the Brewers were very close to adding another pitcher to the pen and riding it out with four outfielders. Parra has been outstanding in AAA and even better because he would be another lefty. Spurling hasn't been awful, but its become pretty clear that the majority of his game time comes in blowout wins or losses.

Thats pretty interesting. But If Parra is going anywhere this year, i think he will be traded I don't see him in our bullpen.
How old is Parra?

He'll be 25 in October.

Why would they trade him? He not only could play the role of another lefty in the pen, but he's also another nice starting pitcher option going forward.

If they are truly looking for anther starter like some people on this board say they are going to have to trade one of their young pitchers to get someone.

parra is prime tradebait, but that doesn't mean he'll be traded. a lefty like that comes along once in a blue moon--we have to see if he's the real deal. promoting gwynn was the natural thing to do, and keeping parra in the minors for now ensures his readiness for a possible late-season call-up to bolster the pen.

How old is Parra?
Why trade a lefty who can help out of the pen and eventually possibly be a quality starter?

If we are truly looking for a starting pitchers I would think we would have to give up some of our top prospects.
