Milwaukee really must be high on Gwynn as a future starter in the OF or we just looking for a lefty.

But even if we did get otsuka i still don't see him beating out turnbow in the 8th.

WOW! How did Melvin not take this deal. This would have sured up our bullpen for sure. I still dont understand why people are hating on Turnbow though. Besides the Philly game and maybe 2 others hes been lights out. But still a 7th/8th/9th of Otsuka/Turnbow/CoCo is pretty damn good. I still dont see much in Gwynn though but obviously Melvin/Reid etc. do

Did anyone other than myself and trwi7 actually watch the video? Rosenthal called the Gwynn-Otsuka swap only a "potential" deal and clearly the Brewers were apprehensive about his age and the Bill Hall injury, causing us to hold off on dealing Gwynn for now. That makes sense to me.

I watched it too. And it made sense to me why we didn't do this deal when I heard he is 35

Who cares if he's 35? Gwynn is 24 and has shown nothing. Otsuka is a top flight reliever.

And who would Gwynn overtake? Hall? Not happening. Hart? Definitely not happening. I'd rather have Jenkins than Gwynn and LaPorta is on the fast track. There's no room for him.

Interesting comments at the end regarding Grant Balfour. He's been lights out at AAA all year -- would seem to me that he would be an upgrade over Spurling.

Thats kinda a harsh comment. Gwynn has not really had the chance to show what he can do. He has shown something though so I disagree with you on that. He has shown that he can be a solid hitter (last year) and a solid defender too. Im not saying we shouldnt have made this trade but you are pretty rough on Gwynn and I think you should cut him some slack because he will be a good player one day, IMO. Never a superstar but a very good leadoff hitter and center fielder.

Gwynn has not really had the chance to show what he can do.

He's had plenty of chances in the minors and the best he could come up with was a .300/.360 line in AAA.

He has shown something though so I disagree with you on that.

Like what? A good 30 at bats in the majors? Big deal Chris Magruder had a good month in the majors too. Not comparing Gwynn to Magruder but the only good thing Gwynn has shown was a good month this year.

A .360 OBP in AAA for a guy who's main attribute is to get on base is not good.

Fine let him go somewhere else. He won't get playing time here with Hall locked up and Hart filling the leadoff role.

You may get your wish eventually. I would rather keep him than lose him but we will see what happens.

Id rather hold out for a better reliever then otsuka. We don't really need anther right hander in the bull-pen. Along with his age our probably the biggest reasons why we didn't do this trade.

How much better do you think we're going to get?

He has a career 2.44 ERA and 1.16 WHIP along with 80 walks and 217 strikeouts. You're not going to get a better reliever than that who you control through the 2009 season.

He has a 2.5 Era with 23 ks this year. and he throws right.

Id much rather wait and get a left hander.
