Okay, I am absolutely fed up with Rickie Weeks. He has done next to nothing this year.
Heck, even freaking Tony Graffanino has displayed a better bat. Graffy has really been hitting the ball well lately.
I would stay away from Counsell.

I voted none of the above. I actually want to see a platoon of Weekanino. I don't think you completly bench Weeks as I don't want him to lose all of his confidence and he will be a key piece to our future. However you need to put someone in the lineup who is producing and Graffy has played good lately. I say figure out a platoon for the two of them until hopefully Weeks figures it out. If, come playoff time Rickie still isn't producing then I say you go strictly Graffy at second.

Melvin insisted yesterday that Weeks wrist is not an issue. If that's the case he needs to go down to Nashville and work on his mechanics.
He's horribly messed up right now and playing once or twice a week isn't going to help.
Now maybe Melvin/Yost think it's all mental and that benching him will somehow snap him out of it, I don't know.
But I'm glad they did the right thing and bench him. Yost is finally growing some balls.
I exepct the same thing to happen with Cappy should he get shelled again today. We have Gallardo in for Sheets and I would be very happy to give Manny a start or two in place of Cappy, he certainly can't do any worse. It's a key game for him tonight.

Yost is going with a platoon for a while. Weeks is going to be benched.

Coming into this season, I predicted that Weeks would hit .280/20 homeruns along with 30 stolen bases. Instead, Weeks has only 5 homeruns, and is heading towards the Mendoza line with a .217 BA. He only has 2 hits in his last 31 AB's.
I read somewhere that scar tissue was still breaking up in Weeks' wrist, and he probably won't be 100% until 2008. Either send him down to Nashville or bench him. I would go with Nashville, because I don't want him rotting on the bench or hurting this team by starting either.

It seems like Weeks needs to do a major overhaul and his mechanics. That stupid waggle, he can't determine pitch speed, and he can't hit to the opposite field. You can tell when players are getting out of a slump when they start waiting back on pitches to take them to the opposite field and he does not do that at all. Send him down to work with Kremblas.

Send him to AAA. Graffy and Counsell can hold down the fort since Hart and Braun have been added to the everyday lineup.
When does Bilbo Hall come back?

Although he's eligible to come off on Friday, I imagine he'll be back next week.

I think he needs to change his batting stance. It hasn't worked for him since he's been in the majors and I think the coaches should realize that. I understand that would take a whole overhaul of everything but that's what AAA is for. Just send him down for the rest of this year or until he gets his mechanics working again so he can have a fresh start for next year. But it's always something with him.

Hall is already doing running. He should be back early next week.

Much as Weeks is stinking up the place, it is important that we still show faith in him, and any young player going through hard times. We will only ultimately be successful now and in the long run with a total team effort, and likely Ricky Weeks.
It wasn't too long ago when Counsell/Graffy was a woefully inadequate platoon offensively at third.
Why is it any different at second?
It will mean more long term if we show faith in the guy. I have no problem with giving some starts at second to Counsell/Graffy, but the lions share should still go to Weeks.

That thing can't help with his wrist either...

Especially when that's how he hurt it in the first place.

When Counsell/Graffy were stinking it up at third, we had Braun tearing it up at Nashville. We finally made the right move and brough Braun up.
Now Counsell/Graffy are hitting much better, Weeks is stinking it up. We finally made the right move by sitting Weeks more often.

I do wish Weeks would remove some of the "violence" from his swing. It tends to help players hit more consistently. Jenks really fell off when he made his leg kick much more pronounced.
