Rotation next year?

Parra, Villanueva and Gallardo give us awesome depth in the pen this season, but will any be starting next season? Supan and Sheets are rotation locks. I think Cappy is too unless he absolutely continues to stink up the joint the rest of the season. Bush has got starter caliber stuff. What's the contract situation of Vargas?

I do know this, as was said in another thread, our future is very bright with these three young guys we could throw out there.

Vargas still has two years of arby left after this year. He got 2.5 million this year. Next year is year one of arby for Bush.

Gallardo is a lock to be in the rotation next year, IMO. I could see Vargas being used in a trade this coming offseason.

I could also see Bush pitching for his rotation spot in a battle with CV and Parra next spring. If he gets out pitched, to the pen he goes.

1. Sheets (still the ace of the staff0
2. Suppan (veteran pitcher)
3. Cappy (you know he'll be in the rotation)
4. Gallardo (hopefully he can become the next Johan)
5. Vargas/Bush (One of these guys are gonna be traded I believe)
6. Villanueva/Parra (I'd go with Villanueva before Parra due to his exp.)

That's how I see this rotation imo

Villanueva is a lock to be in the rotation next year. They will move Vargas and bush out easily if they have too.

CV has been solid in relief. Not every starter can make the transition. It may make more sense to keep CV where we know he can be good and give Manny a shot in the rotation.

Sheets will be in the final year of his contract, it will be interesting to see if we lock him up before the season starts, as we did 4 years ago, or if we gamble and wait. This latest injury will lower his price, at least somewhat.

The latest injury will lower his price? No way a finger injury lowers his price. It's not like a shoulder injury. On the open market, he might get 100+ mil. Keep in mind how much Barry Zito made last year.

If he starts the year without a new contract, he's gone. We will never be able to compete.

1. Sheets
2. Cappy
3. Gallardo
4. Supan
5. Parra

Then we will keep Villanueva in LR where we know he is rly effective and will prob trade Bush/Vargas and put on in the pen as well making the pen look like

Coco, tbow, villa, wise, shouse, Vargas/Bush, Spurlling, Belfour

with i imagine one of either wise/shouse/Spurlling will be tradedas well by the start of next yr or spurlling will be sent back to AAA

It might be the other 6 or 7 trips to the DL in the past 2 1/2 years that will keep the price down.

Exactly. It's a pattern if injuries. Missing 6 weeks in a pennant race is a big deal.

1.Sheets
2.Suppan
3.Capuano
4.Gallardo
5.Parra

The big pitching question is if we'll be able to keep Cordero.

Sheets
Gallardo
Capuano
Suppan
Villanueva

That's my favorite and I don't see it listed yet here. If we move Capuano, go with Bush in that spot.

I don't want all 3 of Parra/CV/Gallardo in the rotation.

Bush is still young enough and has shown the potential, just not consistently. Unfortunately we are just loaded with young, talented arms so he may be forced out.

Bush is a good candidate to be moved to the pen. He's got experience there and can be a darn good reliever for us. I'd hope to see:

Ace: Victor Santos

then

Sheets
Cappy
Suppan
Gallardo
Vargas

Key bullpen guys:
Bush
Parra
Villanueva
*Situational Lefty*
Wise
Turnbow
Cordero

I don't know if I like Bush out of the pen, doesn't really have the stuff for it. If we keep Cappy:

Sheets
Gallardo
Capuano
Suppan
Villanueva

Parra
Shouse
Bow
Wise
Balfour
Vargas
??

Some bullpen moves would have to be made. You can forget resigning Cordero right now, ain't happening. And Villy needs to be in the rotation, he's earned his spot there, he has the stuff to be there as well.

Vargas is the perfect long man. He can't go more than 6 innings. Replace him with Gallardo in the rotation next year.

I'm personally upset that you didn't put Wes Obermueller as the ace.

sheets
capuano
suppan
gallardo
who cares

if it's bush, vargas, parra, whoever, that's a pretty good rotation. and that's the way it'll be unless someone steps way up and outperforms the others.

Sheets
Gallardo
Suppan
Bush
Villanueva

I could see Capuano possibly used as trade bait,if not then maybe replace Bush with him.I'd love to see Suppan traded for anything,a crappy A ball pitcher if needed to get a team to take the contract.Use the saved money to either extend Sheets or resign Cordero. If not an we lose Cordero, maybe see if we could trade Capuano to get a top notch reliever that we could insert at closer.

Parra is a wild card in this.I know he's only thrown two innings, but he's shown great poise so far and the stuff is obviously there.
