I was bitching about this last night while watching the game and was far more po'ed at Yost for putting in Balfour than Estrada's trot down first base, I'll add. Leaving Cordero on the bench, after Balfour had walked the first two batters, was asinine. But even before that, when Balfour entered the game, I turned to my friend and questioned the move since the Brewers had Hardy, Braun and Fielder scheduled to hit in the 13th...why not make sure you get to them, when you're most likely to score a run, than risk not even getting there? If they do score a run, it just means you have more margin for error if you bring Spurling or Balfour in then?

Just a dumb decision all around, if you ask me....anyway, here's the link. Agree wholeheartedly....

I don't have a problem with not bringing in Cordero. Maybe once you had bases loaded and were desperate.

But why the hell bring in Balfour? That's what I don't get. Parra? Spurling? Villanueva?

Balfour is just another Brewers pitcher that can dominate AAA Ball, and is a complete disaster in The Show. How many of these guys have we seen in the last 20 years.

Parra is pitching in the couble header on Saturday against the Cards, so I can understand wanting to hold him out (although, I don't think an inning would hurt). I assume he wanted to rest villanueva, but I woul dhave brought him in over Balfour regardless. Spurling? ehh, I suppose over Balfour, but pretty close to splitting hairs to me.

I really think you go with Cordero in that situation. If the Brewers didn't have their big bats coming up in the following inning, I'd go with Villanueva, but since they wre coming up, I odn't understand why you wouldn't put in Cordero. The game was clearly on the line once the leadoff man got aboard...isn't that when you're supposed to use your closer? I'd rather throw Balfour out there with a lead than in a tie game on the road.

Who cares? Pitch Parra 5 innings if need be. He'd still be on enough rest to make the start Saturday.

And I also hated that Cordero wasn't put in but Balfour, a AAAA scrub was put in instead. I bet Yost's thinking was to wait until it got to a save situation. Get a clue Ned! You're not going to get a chance to bat again if you put your scrub relievers in the game.

God forbid Yost sacrafice an extra day. But he can't do that, it messes with his routine.

hell, Torre has his starting pitchers pitch out of the bullpen all the time on off days, saying that if they're goign to be pitching anyway, what's the harm in one or two innings of real work?
