Would you trade for him? I know the big rumor is JS for Mark Texiera, so obviously we would not want to try and beat that offer with numerous very high prospects, but if Texiera goes to a place like Boston, would you consider throwing in an offer?

He's probably the top catching prospect in all of baseball (not sure how he compares to someone like Weiters, but he's certainly futher along), and would fit in well with the young guys we're building around. It would also open up the option to move someone like Estrada this offseason to create more cap room to resign Cordero.

Anyway, the rub in the deal is that the Braves are looking for pitching and we'd probably have to sacrifice one of our top pitching prospects in order to get him (obviously not Gallardo). But, I wonder if players like Inman or Parra would entice the Braves (I'd prefer the former) and since we're dealing form a position of strength, it's something I'd consider (even though I'd have a hard time dealing young pitchers, to get a young elite catcher is VERY valuable). Throw in someone like Vargas or Bush and one of our OF prospects (Gwynn) and I wonder if they'd bite.

Inman + Gwynn + Vargas for Saltalamacchia.

What do you guys think? I'm not sure where I stand, but I'd love to add a catching talent like this (particularly after the news of one of our more higher regarded catching prospects decided to, as Sheff would say, "stick a needle in his butt")....

i don't think salty is goin any where. if they (brewers) made a run for him they'd have to give up too much at this point. he has been playin 1b for the braves too. i just don't think there's anyway they trade him. he's a stud though, i'll give you that.

I don't know about that...from everything I've read, it sure sounds like they want to move him. He has far more value as a catcher than he does as a first baseman, so that's why I wouldn'y be surprised to see him go elsewhere...

but yes, he would cost a lot...

I think he has had some issues behind the plate early this year...I remember a game against the Marlins in June that they stole 5 bases against him. But yeah he is a top talent at that spot and if people are sure that his defense is solid, I would give up a top pitching prospect for him Parra/Inman and few other pieces to get it done. But the question is how long is Estrada under contract (or salary controlled) by the Crew? I think he only has 4 (maybe 5) years of service time. Atlanta has McCann and probably wouldn't want Estrada back as a backup (plus he's better than that)

The Brewers would have to fork over a lot to Atlanta to get Saltalamacchia. Gallardo would certainly be in there

I'm saying that Atlanta would demand Gallardo in the deal. I don't think the Brewers should even mention Saltalamacchia's name, I'm just saying if a trade is being mentioned, then Gallardo would be someone the Braves would be asking for.
