He's really slumping. My guess is that he's still having problems with his wrist...What do you guys think?

That wiggle needs to go. It's caused him more problems then it has helped him.

The issue earlier this season was scar tissue, which was natural with the surgery he had. Scar tissue can be very painful. He says he's pain free now which may or may not be true but there shouldn't be any long term effects.

Since he's moved up in the lineup he seems to be taking more pitches and laying off the sliders on the outside corner. I hope like hell it continues.

That is no doubt a good sign.One thing that still really concerns me though is he rarely ever makes a pitcher pay for a mistake.He gets thrown a ton of offspeed pitches and even when they hang one badly,to often he can't time it right and it's either fouled off or not hit all that had.

I can't count all the times i've thought,man Rickie,you should have smoked that pitch.

Agreed, Dude. When he first came up as a rookie, he looked like the kind of guy that would usually kill mistake pitches. Now he misses fat fastballs consistently.

He hasn't been that bad. His AVG is way down but he's taking a lot more walks, so his OBP is only 30 points lower than last year. He won't be getting this few hits forever, and when he starts hitting he should be putting up pretty good numbers with the amount of walks he takes.

everyone was salivating over his amazing bat speed when he was coming up, that it would help him catch up to fastballs, find pitches out of the zone, foul bad balls off more to stay alive... now it just helps him strike out faster.
he's hitting .113 since june 24th not including thursday's game (in the middle of which he's 0 for 3), and has taken 12 walks in those 21 games. drugbust is right, that he does seem to have a better approach higher in the order. looks like he holds himself more 'accountable' at the top.

Seriously, if he doesn't break out of this slump soon, send him down to Nashville. Put Graffy at second base. Go with this lineup:

I was going nuts when Larussa decided to walk Rickie today. No way would I have walked a .213 hitter (downright pathetic as of late) to face a rather impressive hitting pitcher in Gallardo, that almost cost the Cardinals.

I know the problem. There's a hole the size of a cave in his bat.

We really could use Ricky's speed in the lineup. Although if he never gets on base I guess it doesn't really matter.

I would like to see him laying down some bunts to get on as well...but I guess that's too much to ask.

Or manufacturing any runs unless its a Fielder/Mench double steal I suppose...
