The Brewers have 13 pitchers on the active roster but nonetheless inquired with MLB senior vice president of baseball operations Joe Garagiola, Jr. whether the complications of Kelly Linebrink's birth qualified Scott Linebrink for the bereavement list. That list is usually reserved for family emergencies or deaths.

Such a move would allow the team to call up an extra pitcher while Linebrink was away from the team.

"They look at each individual case, but with a birth they don't allow it," Melvin said. "I have a call into the [Commissioner's] Office to see if we can't [do something because of] the surgery that has taken place. I don't anticipate us being able to do something."

Weeks sent to AAA, Dessens and Dillon called up, Linebrink to bereavement.

You should add all that to the title. :)

What a terrible plight for Rickie. I love the move though by the organization, they pulled the 'production' matters card with Balfour, nice to see the same standard applies to all.

Good move, Dillon is a career minor leaguer but he can't do any worse than Weeks. Good wakeup call.

I wonder if melvin was on the phone trying to trade for a 2nd basemen. Oh well doesn;t reallly matter now but it seems interesting it happened on the day after the trade deadline was over.

Thank you lord. Maybe now Weeks can get a wakeup call and finally understand that he needs to work on his hitting.

rickie was just never the same since coming back for his injury. this move should give him all the time he needs to heal up and get back on the right track.

however, after this move, is rickie still the 2nd baseman of the future?

Sure, if he gets rid of that damn bat wiggle.

Wow.

Not about Rickie, but Elmer Dessens is still around.

I'm just waiting for that out-of-the-blue Corey Koskie return

Yeah, I think so. If we're at the end of next season and Rickie still isn't doing anything, then they might start to question him. He's still really young and has been struggling with injury - he still needs time!

What does that have to do with anything. If anything that is helping him....

Hopefully Rickie "Pedro Cerrano" Weeks will learn how to hit something other than a fastball.
