Question about todays game

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Mon Sep 3, 2007 10:40 pm

I was at the game, when Estrada got thrown out a third was that Leyva's fault or did Estrada go on his own?

I was sitting not too far from Attanasio, he was not a happy camper.

I thought Leyva waived him around.

Not sure but it looked like it was all Estrada because he thought Pence was going home with the throw.

Whoever made the mistake, it's unacceptable. The play wasn't even close. Having Sheets lead off an inning is a huge deal.

You never see good teams make mistakes like that.
It's a matter of opinion, and your opinion is wrong.

Or lose 15 games in a season in which you had a lead of at least 3 runs

Oh yeah it's my turn to do the game thread. I'll do it later tonight when my mood goes from going Michael Vick on dogs to Very angry.

The Shouse/Aquino debacle was the last straw for me. Righties are hitting .253 off Shouse, and .250 off of Aquino. Yeah that's a big numbers difference right there Ned. Do you go with one of your hottest pitchers or a guy you sent down to the minors 4 months ago because he sucked?

Yeah I know Pence hits lefties better than righties, so does Biggio (by a large margin) but Shouse was good enough to face him. :nonono:

How much do you want to bet that Yost didn't know that when he made the move?

How much do you want to bet he did because thats how he makes pitching changes and position players changes every game.

There's absolutely no way he knew those stats. If he did and still made the move then that's actually WORSE than if he didn't know. I could EASILY make the argument that Shouse's .253 OBA against righties vs. Aquino's .250 OBA against righties shows that SHOUSE is a better pitcher against righties than Aquino (if you can't figure it out for yourself then just ask and I will explain). The fact is, I was giving Yost the benefit of the doubt when I said that I didn't believe there was any possibility that he knew the two relievers' respective OBAs against righties.

Yost is a stat guy. You should know that by now. Case in point the kevin mench dumbass move in chicago where he had a little better ba then jenkins agianist dempster.

I think you misunderstood the intent of my last post. I know as well as anyone that Yost is a stat guy. All I was saying was that I find it impossible to believe that Yost based his decision to replace Shouse with Aquino on Aquino having a .003 advantage in OBA against righties over Shouse. NOBODY could be that stupid.

I believe Yost knew the numbers but also wanted to test out aquino in a game situation where he had some sort of lead. It didnt work out . He should be sent down. its that simple.
