I finished watching the last three episodes of the Bronx is Burning on ESPN and plan on getting the DVD when it comes out in two weeks.

For those of you that wonder what baseball around here was like for the 1982 Brewers, this series helps give some historical context to MLB at the time. While the show is all New York and all Yankees, the Brewers were huge rivals of that Yankees team with Reggie from 1977-1981 and then Reggie with the Angels in 1982 (We faced him two years in a row in the playoffs) I was 10 in 1977 but remember the whole thing and the subsequent years of our guys playing against Nettles, Sparky Lyle, Gossage.......the Mike Caldwell v. Ron Guidry duels where both guys would go the full nine innings against each other. Good times.

If you younger guys need the ultimate endorsement, here's Bill Simmons blurb on the book the show was based on from a couple years ago.

"... A few weeks ago, I made the argument that "New York City in 1977" had more going on than any city ever. Little did I know that someone wrote a book about it called "Ladies and Gentleman, the Bronx is Burning" by Jonathan Mahler and it's actually a breezy read. Much of it is centered around the '77 Yankees and Reggie Jackson; even though I knew just about everything, it was enjoyable to read it in a historical context. In 1977, Reggie was a cross between Terrell Owens, A-Rod and Kobe. You forget this now. Some good stuff in here though
