I'll get this going for a few reasons. One, last night. Two, so we can discuss his evaluation today. Three, because something has been bothering me about Ben and the coverage his injuries have received in the media.
Before the start of the season there was an article in the JS talking to Ben about his injuries, specifically I believe last year. If anyone wants to pay JSOnline to get the archived story, feel free. At any rate, Ben said how he would have played if he was able to. He said he was upset that some guys thought he could have pitched but wouldn't. Well, lo and behold on 1250 that turns into Ben saying that he confided in some teammates that he could have pitched and then said teammates ratted him out. Now first of all, why would Sheets go to the paper and say "Yeah I pussed out, and I told some people. But man am I pissed that they told someone else and the team found out." That obviously makes no sense. Well, no one ever corrected them, and now I am curious what people think about him. Do you guys think that he could play and just pusses out?
I think thats ludicrous. A gold medal winner, a staff ace with the potential he has, doesn't decide to quit on a team. Not to mention everything i've heard about him is that he's a great competitor. Well thats enough from me, lets talk.

i would imagine that it is never up to sheets to determine if he comes out. and as far as it being precautionary, thats possible, but we'll find out if he did **** anything up today i suppose

sheets definitely has the option of opening his mouth and saying 'no, seriously, i can pitch. let me pitch. i want to pitch. pretty please.' he doesn't do that, and he is just as much at fault as the organization for the coddling at this point. he'd probably faint at the sight of curt schilling's bloody shoe.

I'm all for being cautious with injuries in baseball. It's a hell of a long season and I'd rather sit someone for awhile than risk losing him long term.
But it's crunch time now. At most Sheets has two more starts, Sunday and next Friday (if he stays on the same schedule). And that's it. For all we know it could be another 25 years until we're in a pennant race. SUCK IT UP BEN.

I heard on 1250 last night that Sheets took himself out.

suck it up. did you see the way he was pitching in the first. hell he could have made his injury worse and cost us the game. i would rather have him miss his next start then him be gone for the rest of year.

If Sheets had a workout regime like Bush, injuries like these would never happen.
This isn't coutning the finger injury. though. THAT was just unlucky...but all these pulled muscles could be avoided if he worked out like Bush every day, with all the sprinting and stretching and stuff to keep his body in tip-top shape.
The guy just seems lazy to me, but that's just the impression I'm getting. I don't know him so I could be completely wrong.

Totally agree, there is no way that Sheets has the workout routines of Dave Bush or Chris Capuano. Everyone dismisses Sheets as just unlucky, but truth be told with the exception of a few players, you make your own luck.

Completely agree. Plus, when a pitcher goes out with a muscle strain or pull, it's usually one or two starts they miss, not 12.

How can you prevent a hamstring problem though. I thought you coudln't prevent them at all. Or thats what i heard before for football wr's. i know its completly diffrent but you have to put all that pressure so I dunno. I just think the man is unlucky. I mean if he could play i am sure he would jack up on pain killers or something.

Really there's this new thing that was just invented by a Sports Medicine Clinic in California last year. It's called stretching I believe.

Football wide receivers do this thing called running that causes hamstring problems. Also, as trwi said, stretching can occur.

I am reserving my vote to see whether he pitches with a slight strain on Sunday.
I never thought of him as a punk bitch pussy, and he knows the machine that is his body better than anyone, but this is the first time I've ever had my feelings hurt by a Ben Sheets injury instead of just feeling bad. Gotdamn, enough is enough, ace stopper.

the most telling comment of the night for me was rock making a point to say that if ben feels up to it he'll pitch sunday. he said it a few times to make it clear. so we'll see what happens. i agree that i never thought of him as a "punk bitch pussy" but lets see what happens.
