Twins pick up option on Nathan
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins picked up the option on pitcher Joe Nathan for the 2008 season, the team announced on Monday.
Last season with the Twins he finished with a 4-2 record along with 37 saves and a 1.88 earned run average in 68 appearances. It was his fourth straight season with at least 36 saves.
The 32-year-old was acquired from San Francisco along with pitchers Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser in exchange for catcher A.J. Pierzynski on November 14, 2003.
Over eight seasons in the majors, four with the Giants and four with the Twins, Nathan has compiled a 43-18 record with a 3.00 ERA along with 161 saves in 395 games, which includes 29 starts.

This is a good sign, I thought for sure the Twins were being run by a Newton's Cradle and that Nathan would harmlessly pass into salary casualty oblivion

If Neshek has a good first half of next year, I find it hard not seeing the Twins trading Nathan at the deadline. They have plenty of young arms in the BP.
