I just can't see this working out all season. Who will take the place when the demotion happens?

I think Bonser is the least of our worries right now. There's really no reason to believe that he'll be terrible. If he is though, we're screwed and it doesn't really matter who we call up. We've got Garza, Perkins, Slowey, and Baker all ready to come up. After that we have a bunch of mid-level prospects, with Anthony Swarzak at the top of that list.

No, I think thats Santana. For demotion, I think the order would go in the reverse order of our rotation:

silva
ponson
ortiz
bonser

Bonser should be fine. Some might not remember, but at the time he was viewed as the main component of the Pierzynski deal for us. Liriano had injury questions and Nathan was viewed as an ok-pretty good setup man. Boof had just been their 1st round pick a year or two before. He had a pretty good rookie season, but his lack of a real out pitch probably limits his ceiling to a middle of the rotation innings eater type than a true #1 or #2 starter.

If nothing else, the fact that he changed his legal name to Boof should be enough to keep him in the majors.

I'm quite surprised that you think Bonser will be the first to be demoted. I would think it would be either Silva or Ponson. Bonser played extensively late last year and even pitched decently for us in the one playoff game he started.

I don't know, can there be a good pitcher with the name Boof? Its not very intimidating. I feel like I could bang out 5 hits in 10 ab vs a guy named Boof.

Boof is looking pretty darn good in his first outing this season. 3IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 3K so far.

To complete my series of back-to-back posts, Boof finished with 3 great innings and a line of 6IP, 2ER, 3H, 3BB, 6K

Bonser pitched a decent game today.

2 down, 160 to go. Boof pitched well tonight.

I'll take 6 innings, 2 ERs, and 6 Ks every time my second starter steps on the mound. Works out to a 3.00 ERA and 200 Ks. Sign me up for that.

Why Boof? He struggled and then improved, showing the ability to make adjustments that allowed him to finish strong. The same can't be said for Silva, who looks like he's the Kyle Lohse of 2007.

I really think Ryan should be given his due for picking up guys like Ponson and Ortiz. Just about every SP on the market had significant question marks, and we picked up 2 for about half the price guys like Meche was going for.

Much less than half the price, but that just shows how ridiculous that contract is.

Boofs last outing was unlucky with the error by LROD, but he's gotta keep the ball in the gd ball park

Boof just needs to cut down on the balls that leave the park, then he should be fine. He's looking to be more of a strikeout pitcher than he showed last year.

Perhaps Boof wants to take the place of Brad Radke and the gopherball. Some people just get hit hard, Radke had a great twins career and a lot of his pitches ended up on the wrong side of the fence. As long as he can keep them to solo shots and avoid the big inning, I think boof has decent major league stuff..
