Rumor: Johan to mets?

Deal was reported by Buster Onley on a KFAN audio thing with Sid Hartman....it was something like Johan and Bartlett for Jose Reyes and some prospects....

I wouldn't do it...giving up Barty seems like too much to me...but if it was Santana for Reyes straight up?....I'd do that in a second...

I wonder if we could squeeze Wright out of them.....

Reyes and Wright aint leaving.

Johan is Johan but the most I can dish out is Aaron Hielman, Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber and Mike Carp.

Can't do more then that, we have no minor league system to begin with.

Take it or leave it. :D

Not even Pelfrey? :nonono:

I cant give up on the kid yet, he showed too much promise to deal him. Obviously he'll likely never become close to Johan but we have no young pitching lol.

Would you rather have young pitching or Johan Santana?

It would be a no-brainer if we got Wright and Reyes but its also a no-brainer for the Mets not to do the trade. Think about, they would have $300+ probably $400 million invested in two players. I think they can only afford one of either A-Rod or Santana.

No way Jose

That's EXACTLY what I'd tell Jose7. (or anybody else for that matter.)

If you want him you better offer the farm. Johan is the best pitcher in baseball. Period. Peavy? Webb? Beckett? Sabathia? Oswalt? Zambrano? Bedard? This guy doesn't even have a peer. If people try to low ball the Twins, screw 'em. Let them look elsewhere. It's going to be PAINFUL for your team to pry Johan out of Minny's fingers - you'd better believe that.

Johan needs to stay here. Pohlad needs to ante up - we just gave you a new stadium you old miser.

Good Post GopherIt!...I was just trying to explain to Yankee fans that Boston was saying they didn't want to give this and that for KG...Santana is in the same boat as KG is...but it'll all turn out the same, whoever he goes to will be surprised by how much they have to give us...

thoughts and ramblings

Thanks Dunk,

Yeah, people forget that unlike the Wolves, the Twins
actually have one of the best front offices in MLB.
Terry Ryan is still active and helping Smith. I generally
have faith in the Twins management. I think they erred
in not signing these guys (Johan, Hunter, Nathan) last year but
if they feel they can pull off a heist by trading Johan, I trust
them even though Johan is by far my favorite MN player
in any sport and it would sadden me to see him go.

The irony of all this is that while the Twins (and the Wild) both have first rate management but miser owners the Vikes and Wolves both
have owners willing to spend the $$$ (God bless Ziggy and Glen)
but suspect front offices. I just wish the Pohlad's would be more generous to the state and Twins fans. I don't mind public funds going to sports teams IF the owners put the public ahead of their own financial interests
when it benefits the organization to keep key players. Carl has made a lot of money off the Twins at taxpayer expense, if it makes more sense to keep Johan he better ante up.

I just found out that Mr. Ryan lives in Eagan and attends the same church as my dad. My dad said his boy was a good baseball player at Eagan High School. I was raised in Eagan, so I thought that was kinda cool.

Wright or Reyes are not going back in a Santana deal. I laughed at the KFAN.com article posted in the locked thread where they mention both of them as possible pieces in the deal.

There a limited market for Santana. Only a handful of teams will give up the prospects and be able to sign him. Your not going to get fair value for him deal, either hold on to him and lose him ala Tori Hunter or take what the Yanks, Sox or Mets are offering.
