Goodbye Torii

Torii signed with Angels. I'm torn. I'm sad to see Torii go, but he's not worth 5 years 90 million.

I'm just glad he didn't go to the White Sox.

What's sad is: No return on investment.
Had the Twins shopped him at the trade deadline they could've had at minimum 1 field and 1 pitching Top majors ready prospect.
Angels and Dodgers may have had a bidding war. Probably could've gotten
Laroche (3B) and Kemp (OF) from LA, or Kendrick (2B) and Saunders (LHP) from Ana.

False. We'll be getting two high draft picks for compensation in losing Hunter. We wouldn't have gotten much more by trading him.

1) I have no faith in high draft picks being compensation for anything- they can get hurt, bust, or spurn MIN altogether (not like that doesn't happen to the Twins ever).
2) Torii was on his way to a career year in July and most marketable at that point: 300 avg, over 20 hrs w 70 rbis, and working on his 7th gold glove.
With Juan Pierre benched midseason, LA would've been a prime target, prospect rich, option.
Same for the Angels, although less desperate, needed a big rt handed bat.

Hunter probably couldn't have been traded at midseason because:
1. He didn't want to discuss a contract extension during the year which meant the Twins had no idea what his demands would be. If they knew from the outset of the season he would want 5 years and $15 million per, they would've dealt him.
2. Trading the face of the franchise midseason? That would not have gone over well with the fans.
I think the Twins handled it fine. They let Torii play out the season and say his goodbyes. They owed it to him to let him at least finish the season and have a proper goodbye.
I'm not upset we didn't get any players in return for him.

WTF
Dude wouldn't shut up. He was a decent player, but not worth the hype. If he wasn't bashing Joe Mauer he was busy telling every team that he wanted to play for them. It just got really freaking annoying.

He also always played hard, kept his nose clean, and gave back to the community.

Not to mention taking swings at teammates and kicking reporters out of the clubhouse.
