Im surprised that he didn't higher Boras, I mean this is going to be the biggest contract all time for a pitcher. Why not get the best? Either way im not complaining, I sure wouldn't mind a discount.

Jose got a fair deal.

He was a humble kid getting paid rookie/2nd year full service minimum salary and had injury problems in the past. He played his first full season and back then, there were still rumblings about his injuries. We gave him his security throughout his arbitration years and a good chuck of money for a kid who didnt come from a wealthy background.

Yes, he was probably underpaid throughout his arbitration years, but at the time, the deal made too much sense for reyes.

By all accounts, Johan is a very bright and articulate guy. He knows how to handle himself and from what I understand is a very humble and down to earth athlete. If I had Johan talent, I wouldn't want Boras. Sure he'll get me 10 extra million, but he hurts all of his clients images.

I think we will get him for close to what Zito got or a little bit more. I think the big hold up is the years. Mets probably want to keep it at 5, but Santana wants 7. I say they go 6 years with an option for the 7th season.

He does not need Boras, right now Santana and his agent have so much leverage any dimwit agent should be able to get him 6 years 140 minimum. The facts are that 1) the Mets need a number one pitcher 2) the Mets acquired the best pitcher is baseball for peanuts 3) this pitcher is relatively young and has many good years left in him. Money should not be a factor as not only do the Mets draw well and play in a huge market but the Mets are getting their own cable network and a new stadium to further boost revenue.

Bearing in mind all these things, can you imagine the outrage if Santana goes back to the Twins because the Mets could not come to an agreement to sign him? As a Mets fan, I would be furious. Wilpon can raise the ticket prices 20 percent but you won't sign the best pitcher in baseball who we got for so little? It would be a huge black-eye on the organization and there would be a tremendous backlash from the media and fans if this happened.

Santana has the Mets by the balls here. If I were him I would ask for 8 years 170 million because the Mets would have to pay it. He's young enough and good enough to get it.
