Some more minor league signings and the Rooster Report

notable quotes:

OF Ben Johnson re-signed with the Mets on a minor league deal. Johnson did not play last season after sustaining a broken ankle.

This guy used to be an OK prospect - maybe he comes back & helps us. He's proven he can hit a little bit in the MLB.

LHP Oliver Perez is the lone Met not to have his arbitration case settled. His agent, Scott Boras, is seeking $6.5 million. The Mets offered $4,725,000. The Mets would like to work out an extension, but Boras will take Perez to the free agent market next winter.

O.K., so Ollie is a Boras boy. He will test the free agent market and maybe the mets let him go rather than have a sit down with Scotty. On the plus side - Perez is in a contract year, so a lot is riding on how he performs. This might mean he has a career year, or, a year similar to the year he had in Pittsburg 4 years ago or whenever it was.

RHP Nelson Figueroa was signed to a minor league contract and was invited to spring training. Figueroa, 33, hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2004, when he was 0-3 with Pittsburgh.

stats

I'll go out on a limb here and predict that he doesn't pitch an inning.

Also mentions the Armas signing, and this guy might get a few starts, he's right now our #7 starting pitcher. His arival enables Sosa to stay in the Pen all year.

Mets also signed Olmedo Saenz to a minor league deal.

The New York Mets on Tuesday signed infielder Olmedo Saenz as a six-year minor league free agent and invited him to spring training.

While just a .263 career hitter, the 37-year-old Saenz has been one of the game's most productive pinch hitters over the past four seasons.

Last season, he batted just .222 (14-for-63) as a pinch hitter with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But his 14 hits off the bench ranked fourth in the majors.

Saenz has a career average of .256 (72-of-281) as a pinch hitter with 12 home runs and 58 RBI. The 12 homers rank 11th on the all-time list for pinch hitters.

Overall, Saenz batted just .191 last season, appearing in 75 games as a pinch hitter.

don't think he'll make the roster, but pinch hitters can be useful.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Whats the going rate for a Lefty in his prime and can strikeout anyone in the league? I mean if the Mets really feel that he is going to bolt on us after this season let him do his contract year wonders to get his value up and trade him at the deadline.

looking at some of the signings this season, Perez might get a crazy contract offer next year. It'll be interesting to see how that works out.
