He's the guy that one of our scouts (according to the article, it was Jerry Krause - yes, the Jerry Krause - who knew?!? - I sure didn't - but he's a mets scout now)
Anyway, Jerry told the mets to select this guy via Rule 5 draft so the Mets paid the Rockies $50,000 and Register became ours. He lead the minors last year with 37 saves, but that was in AA.
According to the rules of Rule 5 draft - if Stevie doesn't make the ballclub on opening day, Colorado can buy him back, and our pen is mighty crowded. There's a bunch of guys ahead of him in terms of experience and MLB ready talent.

Another Roster Question - Steven Register
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Does anyone have clarification on the Rule 5 draft? I know that he has to remain on the 40 man roster all year, but I read an article that says he has to be "on the team" on opening day and at the end of the season. I'm not sure which is right.
our roster is pretty tight. I don't know if I see him making the team opening day.

I read that one of the reason the Mets are looking to trade Sosa and/or Schoenweis is because the Mets like Register and don't want to have to give him back. I guess from that that Register has to be on the roster opening day.

THat's what I read. The Rule V draft means he has to start on the opening roster, end on the roster (ending is easy), and be on the roster 90 days this year.
One way to start him on the roster is to do what we did last year. Duque starts the year on the IR, Pelfrey gets a start, but opens in the minors, cause he has minor league options and Register slips into the open spot until Pelfrey is called up to pitch.
I like this because Duque never pitches a full season anyway, so why start him from day 1, and it gives us a look at Pelfrey as a starter, which I also like.
