Do we really need him? i know we jus resigned him, but i think Gotay is playing great and Hernandez is doing well also. plus Valentin, Easiely and Anderson add depth.

what has Gotay proved??

he's not a good fielder and he can't hit lefties. And if Gotay wants a spot on this team then he better learn how to play the outfield and firstbase.

Castillo is one of the better leadoff/#2 hitters in the game and while he's not the guy he was in his younger days he's still a pest to other teams when he fouls off good pitches 4-5 times in a row before slapping it the other way.

don't forget he has a good eye at the plate and is a very good defensive infielder which is needed for this team because from the looks of it, they're gonna be more of a defense/pitching type team.
LOL Y U MAD THO?

Gotay had a nice little season last year, but he's not proven he could do it as a starter. Gotay also can't hit lefties & Castillo can. Castillo plays better defense, has more experience as a leadoff hitter (and more experience in general) and is a threat to steal.

But (repeating myself here) - key differences, - he can play D, he can hit lefties & righties and he's proven he can do it for a whole season.

Gotay's a risk. Put him as an everyday starter and you're not sure if you're going to get a guy hitting 290 or 230. Plus you almost need to carry another 2ndbaseman who can hit lefties (which I guess Easley is).

It's sort of a valid question - why not go with an Easley/Gotay platoon, that wouldn't be awful, but there's no guarantee that Gotay will repeat what he gave us last year.

awesome points made by both. I was just thinking we could start to make our line up a little younger.

Essentially agree with the previous post. You need defense up the middle, Gotay does not cover as much ground as Castillo can. Also he is a perfect number two hitter, he takes a lot of pitches and that is key to Reyes madness. Gotay is still young and lets see if he can repeat lasts years performances as a pinch hitter this year.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.
C- Maluach l Jackson l Hayes
PF- Okongwu l Newell l Salaun
SF- Wiggins l Bryant l McNeeley
SG- Thomas l Wallace l Nembhard
PG- Murray l Collier l Dillingham

That's a good point too.

Also, Castillo can hit leadoff when Reyes needs a day off and I think the team plans to rest him a little more this year. Last 2 seasons, Reyes has slowed down at the end.
