I salavate over having a guy like K-Rod here and slipping Wags to setup, but I'm not sure how Wags would feel about that.

As far as starting pitching next season, we've got Santana & Maine locked up, and Perez is resignable but expensive (Mets have a history of ignoring Boras, so we could lose Perez - in that case, I'd want CC the most). Depending on how Pedro does, I expect we'll resign him and depending on how Pelf does - Pelf could be in the starting lineup, so, too many unknowns on whether we'll need a starting pitcher or not. We could go next year with pretty much what we have this year, with Pelfrey as #5.

so, put a gun to my head, I'd say sign Texieria, who'd be really expensive. K-Rod as #2 unless we need a starting pitcher.

Texieria and its not even close. Delgado has an team option on his contract at the end of the year. He is up there in age and cost quite a bit. Texieria will be the young lefty entering his prime, though he would cost a TON.

Sabathia and Santana would give us two filthy lefties to stop any lineup in the National League.

K-Rod is nice, while we do hate Wagner he is not ALL that bad...

The thing is, if we sign one of those big money guys (Tex or CC) and we resign Perez, we'd be entering stratospheric Yankee like Payroll. I like wining, but it does take something away when you say "We have the best team" and they say "yes, you bought it", so, I'd rather see some Omar Magic, but the realist in me says NYM will sign one of those guys, or some high profile free agent in 2009. Our prospects are too few and unimpressive.

K-Rod >>>>>>> Tex + Sabathia combined

The guy is a world champion and proven to be able to do it in a big spot.

With the new channel, new stadium coming next year we are going to become the Yankees. We have millions of dollars that can be spent on baseball, we are going to use it. As soon as we got the station we got Pedro and Beltran and traded for Delgado. We are going to SPEND a lot of money from here on out, why not get used to it?

Sure we would like to develop young kids, but with Wright, Reyes and Martinez we will have developed three of them. (Hopefully) Plus you can always look at moneyball teams, it dont take a huge salary to win.

I know.

but I can't help it. I'm not a fan of that method of team building.

I know that Beltran was a big money free agent, as was Wagner, and to an extent it's OK.

Signing guys like Pedro (when the Sox thought he wasn't worth 4 years) - I think that's a gutsy move and I respect that.

and trading prospects for a needed pitcher - I can live with that.

but too many free agent signings and I feel like we're buying the wins. But it's a moot point right now - gotta wait & see what happens next year. I still like building a team much better than buying one.

you'd rather sign a closer than a starter and an elite everyday first baseman?

what is going on here...

Agreed.

I don't think that signing him and re-signing Ollie will make us the Hankees of the NL. What got the Yankees that stigma was George going out and getting every trophy player available at the expense of building up the farm system. I don't think we'll go down that road.

But we will have to spend more money -- in opposition to the Commissioner's slotting system -- if we really want to build up the farm.

I'd have to say go after C.C. first. If you can land him, the rotation would the sickest in the majors. While I think Delgado is showing his age, I think he can endure another ?decent? season.
K.Rod would have to be last in line for signing just because we still have Billy Wagner. Unless he's injured or just completely chokes he should be alright.

imo it will come down to 4 teams for tex: both ny teams, braves, orieols and you can prob throw in the other bigger market teams..angels,bosox? teams of those natures. if money and championship are his main sticking points then i expect him to sign with nym nyy(big market, lots of money, marketing etc)
