I can see what you are trying to say but I think its a bit different. While that quote can be applied to sports there is a lot more factors that go into it, being a fan and what not. With a team like the Mets over the years I think there is one main difference. We are used to getting guys that are past their prime usually. (Vaughn, Alomar and what not) However also we place way to much hype on prospects in our system. Jay Payton's, Generation K or any other OF prospect. Now of days we are getting some unknown guys and people entering there prime. Barring cocaine and drug problems that derailed the 86 Mets team we should be in prime position to contend for years to come.
