Woot!

As long as Church plays defense like that, keep Sheff only for pinch hitting duty. If he can't deal with that, adios. His bat may still prove useful at some point though.

Dan The Man Murphy, baby!

Green, Putz, K-Rod... then turn the lights out. Santana should win 20 with that support behind him. We blew at least 7 possible wins for him last season.

Great start...

Wednesday, April 8 Tickets Great American Ball Park | 7:10 PM ET
NYM Mike Pelfrey, RHP (0-0, -.--)
Mets (1-0) @ CIN Edinson Volquez, RHP (0-0, -.--)
Reds (0-1)

Scouting Report:
Mets: Pelfrey won neither of his two starts against the Reds last season, losing one. He was more effective in the loss, at Shea Stadium -- two runs, both earned, in six innings -- than he was at Great American Ball Park in a no-decision the Mets won. The Reds scored five runs in seven innings, producing three of the 12 home runs he allowed all season in a five-inning sequence. He was rocked Thursday in his final exhibition game start, allowing 10 hits and eight runs against the Orioles. Pelfrey had missed one start because of an injury to his left leg and had another start ended after 13 pitches because of rain.

Reds: Volquez had a breakout season in his first year with the Reds, making the All-Star team and finishing in the National League top 10 in wins, ERA and strikeouts. He did seem to tire in the second half, with a 4.60 ERA after the break (2.29 in the first half). The key for him is command and cutting down his 93 walks from a year ago will allow him to be more efficient and pitch deeper into games. He was terrific in camp this spring, allowing just one run in 19 innings.

Thursday, April 9 Tickets Great American Ball Park | 12:35 PM ET
NYM Oliver Perez, LHP (0-0, -.--)
Mets (1-0) @ CIN Bronson Arroyo, RHP (0-0, -.--)
Reds (0-1)

Scouting Report:
Mets: Perez has a 4-2 record and 3.91 ERA in 10 career starts at Great American Ball Park despite allowing nine home runs and pitching only 53 innings. He beat the Reds at Shea Stadium and lost to them in Cincinnati last season and now has a 9-4 career record against them. One of the two shutouts and three complete games he has pitched in his career came against the Reds, but that was in 2004, when he was a member of the Pirates. Perez allowed four home runs in 17 2/3 innings in four starts against big league competition in his uneven Spring Training that was interrupted by the World Baseball Classic.

Reds: Arroyo talked his way back to starting after he was originally scheduled to start on Sunday. He received a cortisone shot to to remove the discomfort from carpal tunnel in his right forearm. Arroyo threw 40 pitches in the bullpen on Monday and looked good enough to the coaching staff to keep his assignment. Arroyo is coming off a year in which he topped the staff with 200 innings, the fourth straight season he reached that plateau. He also set a career high with 15 wins and turned it on as the season progressed, lowering his ERA in the second half by 2 1/2 runs, from 5.97 to 3.47.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.

Lets go Mets, I want to see Perez but I believe if we would have gotten Lowe we would have a way better rotation, and be a true contender instead of the inconsistent Perez, lets pray he is good this year even after getting the money

Well its nice to see K-Rod work his way out of that one. Nice to see Pelfrey get the win after that horrible first inning. The Carlos's looked real good today for the most part. It's good because Wright right now is not hot.

Damn 9 runs against a great pitching team, while the umps are helping them, maybe we wont collapse this season, cant believe the Phils won today... Last year we lose this game 100 out of 100 times.

I think it evens out really, I mean look at the help the OF has given us. Bruce today, the entire OF the other day.

True, I still think we need one more good pitcher, maybe Perez steps up before seasons end , but today both teams made a lot of mistakes/ pretty sloppy game.

I mean if you look around the league you have Halladay, Oswalt and Peavy that have been rumored in trades. I doubt we could ever get Halladay, nor why a team would ever move him. Peavy to me seems like its the Cubs or the AL. That leaves Oswalt. It seems like every year we go after him and we almost had him a couple of times. I think at deadline time a Martinez plus type deal for Oswalt would work. We almost had him for Milledge.

Any of those 3 would make us possibly win 100 games of course barring injury.

Whew! I'll be honest, I thought the pen would cough that up tonight!

But no! Let's hope it's a sign of things to come. The offense looked great.

I have a bad feeling about Ollie, however...

Well no one ever likes losing, but at least we took the series. First game jitters are almost over for everyone and soon enough they will be back in NY.

Memo to Sheff, Swing.

Why did we give this undeserving pitcher an extension, we should just try and trade him

Return to New York Mets
