Star-Ledger - If the Mets decide to pursue a trade for a second baseman, they'd find a stunning number of them available. Washington's Ronnie Belliard, Tampa Bay's Jorge Cantu (and ex-Met Wigginton, who can play second), the White Sox' Tadahito Iguchi, Arizona's Orlando Hudson, Houston's Mark Loretta, San Francisco's Ray Durham and Kansas City's Mark Grudzielanek all are or could be available for various reasons. Orlando Hudson anybody? His glove would be a welcome addition and is a solid hitter.

I'd like to give Gotay a shot. Platoon him and easley is perfectly fine with me.

Was that possiblity with the Shawn Green trade? I honestly don't really get why there's a deadline, if deals can still be done in Aug. But I was thinking more along the lines of what happened with the Green deal.

Also, out of those teams, only SD really need a 2b. And I named three guys, so i think the possiblitiy of getting a Loretta/Grudz/Durham can still happen.

We also shouldn't sleep on Luis Castillo.

And I still got faith in Gotay!

Green had a terrible contract though. Loretta, Grudz, and Durham all have 1 year deals. You're right none of those teams need a second baseman, but teams have been known to block trades in order to keep a player from rejoining a rival team. It probably won't happen in this case other than Durham.

The guy I want is Belliard. He is a good hitter, very good fielder, doesn't SO. He can be the perfect number 2 hitter, or you can put him in the bottom of the lineup and get production.

My point is, there is a ton of 2b's avail, and we should give Gotay a real chance (meaning a month) of starting, before we judge. Unless some are dealt, there will be around 5-10 2b's avail in August who are starter quality. (Castillo, Grudz, Durham, Belliard, Loretta, Cantu, Hudson, Wiggy, etc)

The thing is that I want the IF set for the most part. Im sick of these old players that Minaya finds but are not part of the future. Thats the player I want, one that can still play for the next four five years.

To me there are only three realistic options. Cantu, Hudson and Wigginton. The rest are to old for me.

Gotay's glove is just to bad for me, I dont want to take a chance on him this year. I like him as a platoon, but if you can get Hudson you better...

i also think we can get those three guys cheap. hudson will be to expensive. (milledge for hudson is intresting though...if we can sign hudson to a long-term contract then maybe).

Orlando Hudson is the best choice by far.

Plus he had one good year. He should be the cheapest out of everyone though. I like Lorreta, he's a good hitter. Doesn't strikeout, draws some walks, works the count, and goes to right field. Great fit to as our 2nd hitter.

As for Hudson, I wouldn't find trading Milledge for him. But like you said if we can sign him to a long term deal.
